I'm also interested in replacing my stock brakes with a BMW Performance kit or 335i setup. I've done some searching and from what i understood, the calipers, discs & pads are bolt on. The only issue would be with the parking brake system.

The inner diameter of the disc from the 335i e-brk shoes being 185mm, it will not work with the stock 328i e-brk system that are 160mm. In order to have this working, you'll need to replace the wheel carrier, hub bearing & e-brk shoes components. I did a search on RealOEM.com and all 330i, 328xi & 335i (E90) has the same part # for wheel carrier and can be use for this project.

I also found this other thread where the inner diameter of the disc was reduced by a precision engineering shop to fit the 328i e-brake shoes. With this done, it's pretty much bolt on at a cheaper cost and lot less labour involved...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=brake+160mm

I never did this mod yet and i only base my info from what i've seen on this forum, on RealOEM.com and what i've been told from the parts dept at my local BMW dealer so i could be mistaken...

I used realoem.com and compared the key brake and mounting components of the 328XiT to the 335Xi and found no compatability issues. No hub changes, no dust sheild changes, no e-brake mods. From my experiece (again do your own research to verify) all you will need is 335 calipers with carriers, rotors, and pads.

Do you know if there is a difference between the AWD and RWD brakes?

For whatever reason, I am thinking they are not the same. Seems alot of the xi and i models have different brake, suspension, etc componets due to the AWD system.. I could be wrong but have no idea.

It is to my understanding the stock rear 335's will not work. I think replacing the hub and other parts will get the stock e-brake from the 328 to work but am not sure.

We need someone that has ACTUALLY done this to respond... Gavin@MMW, I'm looking at you. Many of us need to know how you got the rears to work.

Thanks.

Interesting; the 328i Sedan and Coupe (not convertible!) have different wheel carriers and smaller e-brake parts. Could be a result of the expected vehicle loading/performance stress... Bummer for the 328i Sedan and Coupe peeps as this will be a more extensive mod.

I'm having a small personal victory here because it seems Xi cars (especially Tourings) tend to miss out on a lot of good mods.

What is the difference between the M-sport brakes and the regular 335 brakes?

Did you need "hub carriers" like the above posted stated?

Is there any differences in the AWD/RWD brakes?

Did you get new parts, used or?

Did you do the work yourself? Never changed brakes before, (I have changed pads, that is easy) not sure how hard it is to swap rotors and calipers.

About how much $$ did this run you?

...and of course.. Pictures?!?
They say the Msport has a slightly larger caliper body, but it looks the same to me.

No extra parts were needed outside of what I stated

AWD/RWD are the same brakes I'm pretty sure, so long as its a 335.

We got the parts from a clients car who we put a Brembo Kit on, he didnt want them so We figured lets slap them on the 328

Our shop did the work, if your local we can do yours too

335i brakes are bigger than 135i brakes, so yes, they are more than an upgrade. Probably more available too. And I don't see how that is going to be more expensive then an aftermarket BBK.
Yes it did, I totally forgot though - if you want the E-Brake to work, you need a 335 Ebrake, which is about $90 from BMW

the 135 brakes are a 6 pot, but they actually dont work as good as the 335 brakes do, there was a huge conversation on here about this a while back, and the 335 brakes stop better and more reliable then the 135, and when you put the 335 brakes on a 328 it stops like crazy, since the 328 is already 2-300lbs lighter then the 335.

For what its worth, we have an Auto - so we dont use the parking brake anyway..

Gavin, could you please please please PM me with some detail everything I need in terms of parts and labor to accomplish this? I have backed out many times due to people saying it's not possible or requires custom fabrication blah blah blah. I just want this cleared up once and for all... if it's as simple as I hope, I will be doing this asap.

Might as well just copy me on that PM as well.

...OR if you have the time, do a DIY - maybe not a step by step, but maybe parts list, and the basics of what needs to be done.

I am going to say I am NOT local, I live in PA, last time I checked, anything good seems to always be located in CA or FL

... How is the pedal feel? still just as firm? no fade? ...whatsup with some picstures!!

Lol I will post it in here, but the process is the same as doing any brakes, the fact that they are 335 brakes doesn't matter. You just swap your 328 rotors, calipers, pads, and ebrake assembly for the 335 ones, and your done

Pictures, I dont have handy, but if you have seen a 335 lowered with 19" wheels then you have seen this

I will try and take some this weekend if you guys want.

Parts Needed for 328 - 335 Brake Upgrade:

2x 335 complete front calipers
2x 335 complete rear calipers
2x Front 335 rotors (any brand, can be aftermarket)
2x rear 335 rotors (OEM or Aftermarket)
2x front brakes pads (OEM or Aftermarket)
2x Rear brake pads (OEM or Aftermarket)
optional:
335 parking brake assembly
stainless steel brake lines

Note:
The 328/325/330 are about 2-300lbs lighter then the 335, so this upgrade stops like crazy. The feel of the pedal is perfectly fine like stock, doesnt fade, no issues.

Side Note:
2 piece front Z4-35 rotors may work for this also, 2011+ models.

Think of it this way, the 328 has to be able to fit a 16" wheel, where the 335 will only fit certain 17" wheels and normally 18". All due to brake size.

1st pic - 328 Fronts still on the car. The 335 front rotors now pretty much cover the entire dust shield.

2nd pic - 335 calipers off car, carriers are not inserted.

3rd pic - 328 vs 335 front rotor.

*Post Edit* 4th pic - Just found a pic on my phone after install, 335 front caliper/rotor seen through 18" wheel.

I looked but don't have a side by side comparison of the 328 vs 335 caliper. Also no rear pics...

OK,
If want to keep ebrake, 328 just need extra 335 parking brake assembly, but 325 will require much more work. Please correct me if I am wrong.
(I still have a set of 335 rear brake somewhere in my house...)

New parts are costly, but are a worthwhile upgrade. Best option is to find new calipers, then get aftermarket rotors and pads

Yes the parking brake needs to be changed to the 335 style if you want it to remain functional
