Went to look at some cars yesterday

With my cousin. He is after a Renault Clio Sport, a 172 or 182.

first car we saw was a 2002 172 sport, in black for £2500....

It has 26k miles from new, FSH and every MOT from new to back up the mileage.

FUCK ME. It was the biggest PILE OF SHIT, I have ever seen. 6 owners on the clock, and covered 1k a year for several years.... The paintwork ATROCIOUS.The interior very worn with a ruined side bolster on the drivers side, miss-matched tyres all round, rotten exhaust and clonking gearbox.

What a joke.... If we were going to see a 150k car I'd expect it to be in far better condition that this POS It was a shitter to the highest degree..

AND it did have the FSH and every MOT, it must have been clocked be EVERY OWNER...

2nd one we looked at (dealer )was a 54 plate 182 sport. In silver with 50k. Turned up and it was very clean, paint very good.... but 3 dents in the side, rotten exhaust and 2 bald tyres at the rear....

told this to the guy and asked for a drop in price and would need to sort the parts also... and he was very rude saying

''Does it say CUNT accross my forehead''

I said ''EXCUSE ME''

he repeated the expletive and said it again... Then said walk away if you dont like it..

I said its top money (3700) and it aint a top car... Really wanted to say I wouldnt buy off him just out of principal.. So my cousin is still looking, Hopefully the right car comes along soon

Don't you worry mate, I was ready to tear the guy & his car to pieces... (Verbally of course) but bite my tongue because I didn't want the guy to refuse to sell to my cousin if it turned out he wanted the car....

It wasn't right for the money and the dealers attitude stunk more than cat shit.

There is a surprising amount of utter shite on forecourts. I sometimes wonder who the hell is stupid enough to buy some of these sheds at the sticker price. In saying that, I don't think Renaults are especially well known for wearing their age well and at that kind of age they will undoubtedly have at least one owner that has thrashed the living daylights out of it.

I'd avoid the backstreet dealers and look private. At least that way he can use womens intuition (or whatever) to try to gauge how well the current owner has looked after it and whether they are a telling the truth, most normal people are shit liars unlike the professional devils henchmen you get at backstreet dealers.

If he's searching national and wants anyone to take a look over anything near Glasgow let me know.

One was a dealer from home sort of chap.

The 2nd guy who was the complete pillock was a independant dealer.

Insurance is a monster for him (young) so he said the 182 fits the bill.

I'm quite prepared to have people speak to me like that in my professional life (working in construction where insults and swearing are used as punctuation) put in my private life I think things might have escalated to the point where that guy and I would be rolling around the forecourt. You did well not to loose your rag.

Fighting? or other miscellaneous activities involving mud and/or jello? ( just kidding Sheps)

Carlson. Agree with Senior Sheps did well too not rise to it, some dealers out there are just pure dodge, went out a few months ago hunting for a car for my younger cousin, ended up in essex at some okish looking place. Car wasnt wasn't on the fourcourt instead it had been kept in a garage all fresh a sparkly. He let us have a quick look around then called us in the office. HE left and we hung around to inspect the car, had recently had a paint job and bumper wasnt lining up properly. everything seemed in good nick though.

I assumed I would be able to haggle down given the condition.

After speaking with him, he got a phone call typical someone else interested in the car. blah blah. So I took the opportunity to check the documents and they werent even for the same car!!

I pointed it out and he got all arsy and aggresive. So we just left. We did think about reporting him but thought better of it,

Live and let drive and all that..........

Anyway the happy ending came when we got tired of autotrader and ebay etc. and had a browse some local papers. Found a Polo one owner old lady low mileage excellent condition etc etc came to about £1000 less than similar autotrader models.

Not saying that there are many old ladies with 182's but worth a gander.

Good luck.

Bring on the paddling pool filled with KY, Old school style!

In all seriousness, I would nut anyone that didn't have a very good reason for being so inhospitable. I did travel nearly 100 miles to look at an 'immaculate' Clio for a mate, that turned out to be an absolute wreck, clearly had done more miles than the Millenium Falcon (despite the 30k odometer) and 'we had words' to the point where matey hid in house and spoke to me through the living room window.

It's the waste of my time I can't abide. I don't mind looking at shit if it's described and priced as such. But don't tell me it's a pearler and show me a del boy Capri ghia.
