^^^ Agreed. I am not sure what the BMW uses. I would think it would be kind of gear oil like 80W-120 or something like that.

Which transmissin?

If you have a MT, don't use the AT fluid (even though Redline will tell you you can). It will shift better with the MT (although may be a bit notchy when cold - I haven't had the problem).

Well yes definately Manual, but redline have two types MT and MTL; it seems the MTL is for 4X4s so I guess I'm gonna go with the regular 75W 140.

Same oil for the diff??

I have only 20K kilos on my car but I do hear noise from the diff and didn't shift correctly from 3rd to 4th a couple of times while racing with friends. SO I believe I need the after break-in oil change for Tranny and diff.

So 75W 140 will work for both tranny and diff??

Royal Purple Synchromax seems to work well in E90 MTs, according to a number of posts I've read here. I'm considering changing to that the next time I have my car in the air.

UPDATE: I've swapped out the Synchromax. The great shifting it provided only lasted a few months, then was about the same as the factory fluid w/60K miles on it.

I put in Redline D4 ATF for use in the Phoenix extremely hot climate. According to Redline tech support, D6 ATF is closest viscosity to the factory fluid and is recommended, espec. in colder climates (D6 is about 10% thinner than D4, so not much difference -- Synchromax is a heavier viscosity than even the D4.)

+1 I originally used Redline, but shift notchiness when cold and warm drove me nuts. I switched to Royal Purple Synchromax and it's much better!

Actually the average fuel consumption improved by proximately 50 kilometers, after I let it run for a couple of weeks now it reads 405 Kilos with a full tank of unleaded95 as opposed to 350...

Great stuff gonna change the diff fluid very soon..
