Normal ea. time u start car 4 1st song on USB flash drive 2 play instead of last song
that you were listening to? I'm just wondering if it's normal, or if it should pick up where it left off? I guess if the car has been off long enough, and it's gone into sleep mode, when you turn it back on, it's like the flash drive rebooting, so it plays the first song on the first folder...
...instead of playing the song that you were just listening to when you turned off the car, like happens with a CD? Thanks! Last edited by Lotus99; 07-29-2008 at 10:54 AM.. |

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if I do I've experienced that one time. One day I got out of my car for lunch with a song from the USB playing. When I got back in and restarted the car, it started playing a completely different song. Very strange but it only happened once. Does yours do this consistently?

Each time I start the car (as long as it's gone to sleep since I left the car), it plays the first song in the first folder on the USB, not the last one I was listening to. So not just a randomly different song.

Now I understand, but no, that isn't normal. Mine restarts playing just where I left it almost every time, with a few random jumps back to FM. Sorry yours is acting up. Have you tried multiple drives to see if it's a problem with your drive instead of your car?

Thx for the reply. Aaargh. I'm going to try a different drive and see. I just got this one two days ago instead of going the hard drive route as some had suggested b/c I don't have 100 GB of music! Rather than mucking about with a 6 inch extension cord and this other flash drive I had bought which wouldn't fit under the armrest , I bought the 8 GB Patriot Mini, which is working fine in that it's not disconnecting by itself like some others have complained of their flash drives, but now I have this issue to deal with...

OK, now this is confusing the heck out of me... So i have a 0.5 GB flash drive that's FAT formatted, and it's been working perfectly all day today, and I've driven the car a few times today. Each time I turn car back on, it starts playing where I last left off.
But the new 8 GB FAT32 formatted drive (pictured above) keeps starting at the beginning each time I turn car on, and not at the last played track. WTF? The drive itself hasn't given me any other issues, like not connecting automatically when I start car (and requiring me to take it out and re-insert it into the USB slot again). So I don't get it. Can it be the brand somehow? Is this normal for all the larger flash drives to sort of reboot each time car goes into sleep mode and start playing the first song of the first folder on the drive? It doesn't do that if I turn car off, and then turn it back on in a few minutes, which is what also makes me think that when car goes to sleep, it loses its place... I thought I'd ask this question again, to see what a few other people are experiencing, as this is still bugging me. I'm running a 16 GB Corsair Flash Voyager stick now and it's doing it every time almost. If I'm lucky, maybe 1 out of 10 times I start the car, it starts playing where I left off (the last song & folder I was listening to, as if you were listening to a CD).
If yours is NOT starting at the first song in the first folder, can you please indicate also what brand and size of USB stick you're running? Last edited by Lotus99; 07-02-2009 at 04:07 PM.. |

Mine seems to be related to the number of songs in the folder. If I leave it in a folder with 20 ish songs it's fine and starts playing right where I left off. If I put it in a folder with 100 songs it seems to have the same problem you are. Every time I would get back in the car it would default to the first song in the first folder.
I recently had my high pressure fuel pump replaced and they had to reprogram the car and it stopped doing it. Might just need your car updated. I'm running a segate 4g mini hard drive USB thing. Not sure the model of it, but it's older. |

Thanks for the tip on updating the software, that's what I was going to ask them and hopefully they have something.
Almost all my folders are albums, so they rarely have over 20 songs in each, but I'll check that out next time I'm listening, in case it only happens to those folders. There's another bug I'm experiencing also, where if I press the Current button to see all the details on the current track (instead of just seeing like the first 10 characters), it ends up going to the radio! |
