I've also heard that they are going to abolish pound notes, and have pound coins instead?

Can anyone confirm this

Oh well. I sorta remember something on it now as everyone was saying ''Quick order a new car soon'' etc not so long ago.

So that 20% is on everything?!?!!!!! How long will it last?

Gonna last forever... though compared to the rest of europe its actualy quite a low rate. And yep.. its on everything tats currently taxed at 17.5%

And if you order a new car now.. makes no diff! You pay the rate of VAT at the point its registered... so most likely next year!

Was told this by a BM dealer last week... even if i paid in full now it wouldnt matter apparently

(oh... and lets not forget.. it also goes on petrol ... another reason ive gone the company car route - too expensive to run my own)

Think a few car manufacturers are going to honor the old VAT rate till March, that includes BMW but not for company or lease cars (read somewhere).

VAT is at a lower rate on some stuff like kids clothes.

I mean mate, people were saying this months ago. Therefore they would not pay the extra tax with cars being delivered within the next month.

No VAT at all on kids clothes and shoes etc - the same goes for most food also. The criteria used for food VAT rates are brilliant, eg:

Jaffa cakes = zero rate VAT

Gingerbread men decorated with chocolate unless this amounts to no more than a couple of dots for eyes = Standard rate VAT

and

Bourbon and other biscuits where the chocolate or similar product forms a sandwich layer between two biscuit halves and is not continued onto the outer surface = zero rate VAT

Chocolate shortbread = standard rate VAT

My apologies - in which case, I stand corrected.
