How long to get permanent metal VA license plate?
I have had my car for about 3.5 weeks and I am still on temporary paper plates. How long does it take to get the real plates for VA? And do I get them in the mail or do I have to go to the dealer to get them?
Oh, do I also have to do an emissions inspection? |

MD temp tags are 45 days & honored by VA so you have a bit of time but call the dealer. My VA dealer had my VA tags & didn't bother to tell me.
No emissions for 2 years on new vehicles but of course VA inspection if you haven't done so.

your dealer/CA should send a card or give you a call letting you know that your tags have arrived.
My CA was more than willing to overnight them to my place, you should be able to get similar service. |

You still have to do the safety inspections

yeah I did my annual inspections at a gas station and this guy did exactly that...on a 1 year old car He told me my brakes were running thin. I told him the car would've told me that when its high time and he told me not to trust 'these new computers'

What safety inspection??? Isn't this a brand new car? The tags in MD take a while to arrive for some reason, but the dealership will send you a post card in the mail when they get them. Mine took about a month and half.

Actually, I think to qualify for a Virginia tag you have to demonstrate the following driving traits: 1. Begin to overtake another car while you're in the left lane. 2. When you reach the other car's blind spot at the rear quarter, slow to match speed and stay there for about 15 minutes. 3. Suddenly accelerate rapidly and pass the vehicle that probably didn't even remember you were there. 4. Merge into the right lane directly in front of the vehicle you just passed, but only allow about 6 feet between you. 5. Take your foot off the accelerator and force the driver behind you to slow down. 6. When the driver you just passed a few moments ago finally gets annoyed and passes you and then resumes his normal speed, repeat the process beginning at step 1.
