Is Kumho Ecsta ASX really worse than Yokohama Advan s.4?
I'm shopping for all-season tires in the original size and there are only 3 options: the kumhos, the yokos s.4, and Pirelli P zero nero M+S. I don't want the Pirellis b/c of many reports of tramlining and flat-spotting in cold weather. So, I read a bunch of reviews, but still can't decide between the kumho's and the yoko advan s.4. The price difference is pretty significant, so unless there is also a significant difference in performance and ride comfort, I'm inclined to save $$$ and get the kumho's. Any thoughts? I'm sure, someone has been through the same choices and made a decision ...
My main requirements are heavy steering/front wheel stability feel, no tramlining, and good wet traction. Gary, what's your opinion? |

Now that I read more reviews about the Pirelli's, I'm about to change my mind...

The difference is noticeable between the ASX and Advan S4, but not dramatic.
Also I haven't had much trouble or negative feedback on the Nero M+S. I even put them on my fathers E46 a couple of years ago. Tires http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&...ires/index.jsp

Thanks guys. Now I'm seriously leaning towards the Pirellis.

I have the Kuhmo ECSTA MX's on my E46 and I love them. However, they suck in the rain... and probably snow... as they are summer performance tires. But they stick so well around corners. Definitely worth it for a track tire.

I had the Kuhmo Ecsta ASX tires on My 04 S4 and to tell you the truth they were fine. Not a performance tire but definitely as good as the Pirellis or Continetals Extreme Contacts. I would not hesitate to buy them again. In fact I will probably put them on my daughter's 250 IS AWD. Good street tire.

I had the Pirelli's on my C320 RWD for 2 years and it got me through Wisconsin's winter pretty well, only got stuck once or twice.

After a lot of thinking I just ordered a set of Advan s.4. The difference between them and the Pirellis installed was only $175.
A dumb question: will the TPMS work with the new non-RFT tires? What else needs to be done so that the systen work properly? |

I really like the Kumho SPT. If they have them in the size you need, I'd recommend them. They are great in the rain and are very stable at higher speeds and during cornering. However, they are not a year-round tire.
Then again, I think any no-seasons (all-seasons) are terrible tires because they do nothing well except last forever.

Yes, the TPMS can't tell whether or not your have run-flat tires on the wheels, so operation is just the same.
