DTML Pump DIY
2008 335i e90. Just did this myself and figure this may help some people.
Parts needed: 8mm hex - female tool 10mm hex - female tool 2-4mm star screwdriver - needed to remove pump from canister Flathead screwdriver - for rubber piece between pump and canister And of course - jack and a few stands. $90 - 100 for DTML Pump from Pelican Parts. I paid more for faster shipping. The pump is white. The DTML pump is INDEED on the driver's side. (Pelican Parts has a DIY but it's for the 328, and on the opposite side. Frustrating to take off the passenger wheel off, and it's not there.) There's a video on youtube which shows it's on the driver's side, but doesn't state it's a 335. It is.) Need to take the driver's side wheel off first. Then remove (2-3) 8mm screws for the fender lining to be pushed out of the way. You will need to unscrew 8mm screws 6-8? to remove panel underneath the car, to access the canister/pump. This DIY starts after the panel screws are removed, and will give you some confidence - Then the (2) 10mm screws under - to let the canister drop. Hoses are pretty durable just yank hard. Hoses were the toughest part of the job, and took some muscle. On the current pump, there is a rubber piece that you will need to wiggle off with a flathead screwdriver to use on between the canister and new pump, but it makes sense when you see it. Also, there are 3 pretty small star-screws in order to get the pump off the canister. I had code P2402, which I've read won't go away unless you clear it, or drive for 3 days for it to reset. Finger's crossed. Hope I don't need a new gas cap. I checked my wire going to the pump to look for any fraying, and it looked fine. |

Pro tip, it's a bitch to get all the hoses back on. Take a little oil or grease and put it on the O rings and they slide on like butter. Also wear glasses when you do this because all the shit your wheels kick up gathers in these panels.

update, i ordered the pump and a few days later, the "check engine" light went off.
it's been more than a week and it has not come back. with my luck, the day I return the pump will be the day the light comes back on. haha.

NOTE: For a 2006 330i e90, the pump is on the passenger side.
