Nav system add on
I Bought my e92 335 without Nav because i just dont really need it... i see advertisements, that actually allow you to add it on...
Has anyone added Nav to their car... or even added the park assist? Does it work, is it the same as what stock cars come with or is it a little better? And is it worth it?

They are both are able to be retrofitted with oem parts. They have the same exact functionality as oem. In the case of price, it is pretty expensive. I would do navigation, but not park assist.

Yes, it can be done but no, it's not worth it IMO. It is extremely costly and labor intensive (from what I've observed from those who have added it on), requiring a rebuild of the entire dash to accommodate the idrive. You're better off buying some time of TomTom/Garmin. If that doesn't suffice, I would sell the car and buy one with idrive...

To give you an idea of a full OEM idrive/nav retrofit.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=retrofit
about 5k in parts alone. requires a new dashboard. Probably could only be done in Europe by bimmertech. An aftermarket HU/Nav would be a better approach but that comes with a lot of problems and expense too. head unit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=retrofit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin dynavin not so good according to reviews. There is more detail in the audio sub forum http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27 Last edited by ctuna; 02-03-2013 at 12:26 AM.. |

FYI see the link for the review
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin
Also there are problems putting in any kind of aftermarket head unit that go beyond fitment. If you have the L7 factory system you will also need a new amp because no aftermarket head unit will work with that system. Its reccamended that the original head unit be installed somewhere else in the car to retain chimes , SOS , and PDC if you have it. When doing repairs that require reprogramming or writing new software values to the modules in the car the old head unit must be connected for the BMW diagnostic computer (the one at the dealership ) to work. |

Be careful when choosing a 3-series. One of my e90s doesn't have iDrive/nav and I can hardly stand driving it due to how fiddly the radio interface is. That is the wifey's car so I rarely get behind the wheel but when I do, it is like I am in a completely different car. It is less about the navigation than it is about the radio and phone for me. Driving in the vicinity of the speed limit is very boring, I need to play with the iDrive to pass the time.

Why not remove all the interior lamps and replace them with the BRIGHTEST LED bulbs available then drive around with them on. People ask for help but when its given they come up with all the excuses. You could also buy another Fusion and change the Badging and pretend, think of the money saved.

I was in the same position. Bought an e92 w/o navigation since i never used it in my previous car. Turns out that I like having a bright screen in there too.
After realizing the price of retrofitting a navi, i considered the dynavin. From the reviews ive read, its hit or miss. And its also a pain in the ass once youre modifying intricate systems w/non-oem parts. I've decided on getting either an ipad or ipad mini and a mount and am going to use that as my entertainment system/center. Ive got netflix and spotify on there and there are plenty of navi apps to give you turn by turn directions and its all touch screen. Win/win |

I have a custom leather piece setup that is from KUDO. I hardwired it on the dash with a 7 inch GPS. Many don't realize its not oem and its an awesome alternative. Any head unit other than the OEM one looks cheezy imo.
