I want to connect an iPod to my iDrive Professional. It will just sit in the glovebox permanently, and it is just an iPod (the car already has bluetooth for an iPhone connection).

The car is a January 2008 E93 with CCC which has Pro Nav, bluetooth and voice (although I'd love to upgrade to new fully activated CIC if someone local to Surrey wants to quote me for supply and install)

Options I've looked at are Mobridge and Dension, but I could also have BMW install their iPod kit.

Any recommendations?

Den soon stuff really good, with BMW equipment car has to have software update before fitting and then retro fitted in superb tho one finished. Would go for BMW 1st with dension 2nd.

Dension is well regarded. BMW kit is bit slow and sluggish.

I've tried Dension & MoBridge, the MoBridge caused lots of problems so changed to a Dension 500s which is spot on.

BMW iPod kit is slow, and not really worth the money..
Dension is good, but for close to 500 euro, i would put my thinking cap on..

My usual advice,(as i am big fan of oem):
Have a look at getting a MULF2 retrofitted.. might save a few quid..

I don't know what a MULF2 retrofit gives you but if it's anything like 6FL (armrest USB) I got quotes from a number of BMW garages which ranged between £700 - £1,000, depending on how long it took them to code, and that was on a 2010 e90 with a Combox already installed.

hmmm interesting.
Look at the kit which I have fitted. 6FL oem kit cost the owner aprox £275.
And later deepsrd prompted us that there was a hack to retrofit 6FL without any oem kit and parts cost approx £100-125 + fitting.

Bah, never go to BMW for retrofits.. They are very much within the capability of you and me to do it..
If coding is not your thing, there are many people on this forum who can do it for you (free or small fee) ..

It is 6FL, and as makkan said above, it costs not more than 200.
To give you an idea for your scenario, (with combox installed), parts needed:

USB/AUX socket - 30e
HSD cable - 40e
AUX wire - (farnell) - 5e
Coding - depends..

All prices in euro.. And these prices are from BMW including VAT.

If you have CCC, then a MULF2 is the option.. and you will need the above things as well..
Check on ebay how much a MULF2 costs. (as a guide, combox costs under 200e) ..

If you want to save money, research.. BMW retrofit kits should be your last option!
