Personally I would by the yellow one and get it wrapped. Much better value. Otherwise I would try and negotiate a better price on the 2008 car.

Both are well looked after cars though.

Buy it and leave it yellow - you don't buy an M3 to be inconspicuous

I think the Yellow one raises a fair point. Reminds me to EITHER stick to my original 27k ish spend and go for a 2007, manual with EDC and DAB at best.... Or, fuck it if I'm spending £38k, I'm having a GTR.

Sigh lol....

Was just about to say the budget seems to be creeping up. Thats the fooker buying a used bmw - the search for holy grail of the ideal spec.

At that price you can get a 2+2 Evora.

Would agree that if your are thinking of stretching to the extra £10K it's got to be down the GT-R route

To be fair Matt the car you've posted up there is stunning. It is expensive for the age but has every single option basically. Consider the individual audio alone adding 2k to the asking price and you can understand how he's priced it.

I think if he'd drop 2k it'd be a worthwhile purchase... Certainly if I was in the market I'd pay for that one over a 27k car with triple the mileage and no options!

Agree, it has £1000 of adaptive/high beam assist headlights too, all the other options I wanted and more.

It also has Paintshield, which is something I would never pay for, but no doubt appreciate.

Again, I reckon it's a £34k car, but I doubt I will bother anyway as haggling £2k off a private seller is always tough. They take it too personally!

Nothing wrong with picking up the phone though Matt. As long as you explain the situation with him (quick & easy sell), say you're over budget but wanted to at least give him an opportunity to hear you out, you never know what he might say or what his personal situation is.

There's one thing calling up with a cheeky bastard offer, there's another calling for a quick upfront and honest chat to explain your position. Done right, what's the worst thing that could happen, he says no.

Looks an absolute peach though.

Yeah sure Rog, I personally doubt (despite my Internet persona) that I have the disposition of a man that would offend.

I suspect the seller IS in a bad position as he has cited back trouble in the ad. Sigh. At £34 it DOES seem a better prospect but it's still creeping, creeping, creeping towards some very exotic metal and it does still lack the 09 onwards i-Drive that I would so prefer.

On that note, bear in mind that I have had the same i-Drive/Nav/etc system in both my 335D and 135i. Anyone who has been in an M3 will know that they are (sadly) very similar to the standard 3 series (which is similar to the 1 series) and all are (in my opinion) very outdated compared to modern cars.

In effect, I take issue with spending 35k on a car with an interior and nav system etc which is somewhat inferior to my Golf even, let alone the 2004 Audi I consider to be the 'best' interior I have yet seen. I suspect I would rather have a LOWER spec, newer car than a higher spec older one for this reason.... Unless (as I said before) I end up paying much less money (hence the 2007, basic options and much less cost rationale.)

In that case I'd go older & cheaper and mod the f*ck out of it . No point in spending £x,000 more just for a better SatNav .

Nice Car and if your going to keep it for a couple of years probably worth paying that bit extra although even at £34K I think it would be overpriced. My Car (not best selling colour I know and lack of EDC but otherwise great spec) is bottom booked at over £13K more than that one and best trade bid I've had is £40K so if he's in a hurry to sell doubt he'll get much above £31K/£32K

I think that's a touch harsh. SOME credit has to be given to both the DCT box and the options list, plus lets not forget the mileage and 'claimed' condition. There are lots of rough/average/ok, low spec 2008 cars with manual gearboxes and 40k miles for about £28-29k, so I think one like this could attract £32k at the least, rather than at the most. I still agree, having looked at it only a second time yesterday (or whenever it was) I am SURE I won't be buying it at 35k or more.

Rog, your idea to buy cheap and mod is what will likely happen as I get bored when I don't fettle anyway. hehe.
