Flat Tire during service at a Dealership
I brought my 2010 BMW 328i in for regular service at my local dealership last week. When I picked the car up I got in and immediately noticed a flat tire on one of my rear tires. I was told that I would be accommodated because it happened at the dealership. The next day when I picked up my car, I was told that the dealership patched my run-flat tire and it was good to go.
Afterwards I was thinking about when I bought my car and how I was told that BMW doesn't patch run-flat tires and they should be replaced if they are punctured. I'm now thinking that the dealership took the cheap route and shouldn't have just patched the tire. I think it would've been more appropriate for them to do a replacement. Any advice? |

Yes you are right. Stealerships are cheap and will try to scam you everytime they can. Talk to a manager and if that fails contact BMW Directly.

The dealership told me some BS stating that the Continentals I have allow for patching. Its funny how they'll tell you one thing when they're trying to sell you a warranty, but if ts their fault, they will say patching is perfectly fine. Im going to speak to them this week so I hope they do what's right

BMW states that you cannot patch a run-flat tire but realistically, if you do it properly, there's no reason you cannot. As long as it's in a repairable region of the tread pattern it's completely fine..save your breath and your time and just keep on driving.

Good point but I don't really think the tire is entirely what the op is concerned about. It's hypocritical for the dealer to say a tire can't be patched when the customer is paying for it if they don't follow them same rule when it comes out of their pocket.

After speaking with the service manager at the dealer, they have agreed to replace the damaged tire for me free of charge. I read them continental's policy on SSR tire damage: "Do not repair or put back in service Continental SSR tires that have been damaged or run flat.
Continued operation of a damaged SSR tire may put your safety at risk and voids the Continental/CTNA Limited Warranty." They initially pushed pack, but eventually helped me out. |

Personally if the tire was not driven on when flat I would rather have the old one plugged and patched than a new one due to diameter matching due to wear (unless the flat tire was brand new.)
Other posters are right though, BMW will tell you to buy a new tire when you are paying.... #$%^#%$^ |
