NJ ticket with NY license question
Hi,
has anyone with NY license ever received a speeding ticket with points in NJ? If so, did the points transfer and did your insurance company ever find out and increase your premium? Thanks in advance! |

hey, a friend of mine has a ny license and got a dui in nj and it did carry over/insurance found out. i know its not exactly your question, but i believe since ny and nj are neighboring states they will carry over. it may depend on the offense but i do not know. good luck

regular violations dont. ins may find out other ways, but not that likely. NYS doesnt accept out of state violations that are non DWI/DUI from anywhere except a few provinces in canada.

Agree with orient330i ^^. Has nothing to do with neighboring state etc, ny just isn't part of the accord for sharing violations among states (most states are) except for dui and except regular violations from parts of Canada.

The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.

After all this gibberish, No points and insurance never knew. But make sure you pay the fine because they will put a bench warrant for your arrest which means that if a local cop wants to be a jerk off they can bring you in and wait for a officer from the county that you have a warrant in comes and picks you up. I was brought back to Virginia in a squad car in cuffs.. TOTALLY uncomfortable.

Thanks everyone for replying, seems like we've established the fact that points dont transfer over
Now, I just need to know whether or not my insurance will find out that i will have a few :-) points in NJ.... Anyone whose ticket wasn't dismissed (and actually received points) can chime in? Thanks! |

State of NJ loves me for tickets. Got a few big ones, they said I could plead down for no points and pay more money, or take the most points and pay less.
Since they don't transfer and my insurance has no record of it at all, I took the max points and walked away from a few big violations paying between 80 bucks to 200 bucks. Why give them more money when I don't have to? One ticket was clearly entrapment, but Fort Lee is not the place to be an out-of-towner and pick a fight with the court system. My insurance company told me my history has been clean for the past year and a half...LOL |

but yeah for someone who has an NY license, i wouldnt worry about points unless those violations were in either NY state or Quebec.

OFF THE RECORD: I have V1 and it is great... except for the time when you are clocked by laser from a police car hiding behind a curvy road on top of the hill and you don't have enough time to slow down to 65 ;-) oh yeah... did i mention that the laser isn't ON all the time to give you a warning - it's only ON for a fraction of a second when he sees you
FOR THE RECORD: This time i wasn't speeding, not sure how he clocked me - must have been some other car, but went after me |
