I've been having this problem for years now and was wondering if any other members are having the same problem. My driveway is asphalt so when it gets hot outside and I'm working under the car for hours, the jack stands sink. I tried putting a block of wood on the jack stands so it wouldn't crush the plastic but the wood I use was too thin and flexible and it bent. I'm going to get my hockey pucks and attached them to the jack stands for now.

What are you guys using on the jack stands to prevent crushing the plastic pad?

Also what are you guys using to prevent the jack stands from sinking for those of you who have asphalt drive ways.

I used to put mine on a 10x10 inch piece of 1/8 steel that had grip tape on top of it. So they couldn't slide.

Your driveway wasn't done right...I mean its normal for some sinking i.e. think about runways and asphalt, etc. There will be some give, but your jackstands shouldn't be sinking.

Use two sheets of plywood.

i.e.



Place the jackstand in the middle.

I put a piece of 3/4" plywood underneath them. No problems with that. If you plan on leaving the car up there for a long time there might be a problem, but in that case it's also a good idea to check with your trailer park to make sure they allow that

It isn't sinking that bad but there is certainly some give and holes after I have the car up for a long time. I'll get some plywood later on. Thanks

I'm guessing most of you are using blocks also for the top of the jack stands so the plastic pads won't get chewed up?

Typical problem with motorcycles too. Especially the heavier cruisers. Lots of bikers carry around a small block of wood to stick under their kickstand for hot summer days on asphalt.

You can also use a crushed pop can for your kickstand.

My jack as a pretty wide pad so I don't use anything. Plus they're pretty banged up from previous owners and shops and scraping.

You should probably look for a different type of jackstand. If you are using a traditional jackstand that is designed to fit under a traditional live axle (like on a Pickup truck) then you are using the wrong type of stand. Find a stand with a wide flat face and you shouldn't have a problem.

The plastic lifting points on the chassis are really designed for use with an automotive lift. I've lifted my car probably 60 or so times by now with my lift and I've yet to damage the plastic lifting points. If you use a floor jack on the lift points and it does not properly roll underneath the car as you lift it (which is why floor jacks have wheels BTW) and it is pulling on the lift point then you can damage the plastic. You should be jacking the car from the rear and front center jack points (look in the DIY section for how to properly lift the E9X chassis) and just setting the car down on jackstands located at each lifting point.

i used soda cans.

i used to have a giant 78 bronco/ranger on 78 inch tires, it would slide backwards (downhill) on really hot days.

These would be better but they are pretty expensive at $60 a pair.

I also have the BMS jack pad I use on to jack the car up from the side and then I slip my other jack to get the the central jacking point and put jack stands under.

I have that same PA one. Works slick, the lift pads fit perfectly inside the jack cup.
