sign up, a lot of folks pre-register w/o paying. and not everyone ends up paying, they just put their name down to reserve a spot. chances are you may still get in considering how early it is.

DSC OFF is right. I have gotten into 2 "filled" PCA events because people had signed up and not paid a few days before the event.

Definitely a learning experience, but as Peter mentioned not the most exciting track. It's probably a step up from what you did at E-town but not nearly as fun as a true road course like NJMP.

Ugh... I may not make it to the WGI event next week, my diff is in AZ getting rebuilt. I thought I would have it by bow but they are having issues sourcing parts or something.

I hope the cca lets my credit ride into next year it would be a real bitch to be out the coin for the event fee.

Jim is a good guy I hope things work out and I know he is doing his best.

Anyone wanna lend a ride, barrowed cars are faster right?

I hope to know today but I thought I would know for sure at the start of the week.

The pass side shaft kept popping out, it was leaking ect. Not much of it was salvagable. Based on the fact that it only had 25k miles or so with no abuse, sticky tires, or torque (lol) I think that there might have been a casting issue with one of the internal parts and it just tore the whole thing up.

To save money and time, he has 3:38s on hand so I might go that direction. Time will tell, I'm bummed out.

Looking for advice (and since my logon is messed up on this site and I cannot start a new thread..)

But Jim at PerfGearing wants me to put a 335i rear end in my car because it can handle dramatically more torque than my car will ever put out. The other diff that I had that came from him really was toast, just about nothing was worth reuse. I have no idea why it happened, because I don't abuse the car, it never saw sticky rubber and only a handfull of auto x days.

So the long and the short of it is that I can do a 335i rear, but I would have to change the driveshaft, and It would only cost about 3-400 bucks more. Overkill, sure. Worth it? I don't know just because I really think the last rear end breaking was a fluke.

I want the car to feel OEM (other than the shorter gears). I don't want a trade off that I may not be thinking of at this point.

Thanks

It was more than likely a total fluke with your old rear.
I have a Diffsonline LSD with 3.38 and a 3-clutch setup. I've had it in for almost 5 years with a ton of track time including R-comps and zero issues.
It sounds logical that the 335 rear is stronger, but what gearing? If the gearing is okay and it's only costing $3-400 extra for the driveshaft, I'd say go for it.
Just make sure that the mounting for the rear diff is the same for the 330 & 335, otherwise you'll need to change the cross member.

Good call on the mounting points, thats a good question.

Gears I would either do 3.64 again or 3.38.

Hopefully I will have more info today.

I attended Joey G & VAC Open Track day today on NJMP Lightning. It was a blast. Open track all day, we had insane cars including a prototype, a NASCAR, a radical, and everything in-between. Serious shit. Video review sessions of several corners and there was a skid pad car setup for a car control clinic, I spent some time in that. Very cool.
The quality of drivers was so impressive. I was one of the very few without a competition license - I got noticed though and fit in just fine! We had 34 cars total. Two of the times I went out, I had the track completely to myself.

I am now running on 18x9 OZ Racing Alleggerrita wheels with 245F/265R BFG R1 tires. There is a leaving curve for R comps but they are the next level.

Aaron Povoledo was there and I got a personal 20-min session ... what an honor. He did a 1:14 on Lightning in my car!!! I am just a few seconds off that

Here's a pic of me and VAC's E92 on the track doing a lead-follow this morning (photo courtesy of Wind Shadow Studios ... awesome photographer (http://www.windshadowstudios.net/).

Very impressive, sounds like you had a lot of fun.

PLEASE PLEASE tell me that you have some data to share with us and/or some video of the 1:14 lap (ideally showing driver inputs). This is a great chance to find more time around that track with our particular cars. Beers on us of course!!!

Aaron took us for a track walk so I can share some info about that - I felt faster but don't have data to back it up. I am waiting for the Sony Action Cam to ship.

To fit the wheels I had 10mm spacers all around.

The BFG R1 tire is no joke, 10mm wider than its rated width at least (Edit: see this post for a comparison: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=10)
It took me all day to get comfortable approaching their grip limit. I was pulling 1.2-1.3Gs when I had time to check my steering wheel readout. They let go REAL fast; there is grip or no grip, no in between whatsoever. In a 335 with stability control off the rear end comes out instantly if you upset the car in a turn or apply a fraction too much power with the steering wheel other than straightened. My advice, keep stability control on. It will save you. You may be a few tenths faster if you turn it off and are able to catch the car when stability control would have otherwise intervened, but catching the car is difficult. I drifted turn 7 twice. Lol. Wouldn't have been an lol if there was a car passing me though.

You can remedy the sudden loss of grip with a different alignment setup. Losen up the front end grip a little and the rear will be more progressive and safer. I can get my car to oversteer if I'm a hooligan during HARD braking and turning while braking.
Other than that, my car is very easy to catch, even when over cooking turn 1 on Lightning at the top of the hill.

Povoledo: "wow you have a lot of torque."

I think that's the key, it's careful modulation of the throttle. I can kick the rear out of this car at will, slicks or not. The turbo makes it a bit more challenging as well since it is not as linear as NA.

It's been almost a full 72 hours since my event ... I need to get back out on the track, now... I have a feeling this winter is going to be hard for me.

Hey Guys who did CCA Del Val NJMP in August.

If it was you're first time running with them for the full event you get a $50 discount good for Pocono or any 2013 school. Just make sure you email the registrar to get the promotion as it didn't appear automatically on motorsportreg.
