Misfire 335i
So since Crevier didn't bother to fix the problem. I took it upon myself to fix it.
I have been having a misfire on cylinder 5 for over a month now. My mechanic recomended me to replace the ignition coil and spark plug. Today I replaced the ignition coil but i could not replace the spark plug because I did not have the right socket > Right after replacing the ignition coil I wanted to go return the socket that i had bought at sears. As soon as i took off the engine light came on again and im assuming it was another misfire... wtf!! So tomorrow morning im going back to my mechanic so he can read the code.. This is frustrating!!!!! |

Before switching out the spark plugs, switch the misfired cylinder coil pack to another cylinder (example: cylinder 3 misfired, switch 3 to 1) and if it's the same cylinder that misfires it's the spark plugs that need to be changed but if the coil pack 3 you switched misfired at cylinder 1 then it's the coil pack.

You can buy the socket from amazon for $20. I had this issue before. All I did was change the sparkplugs and kept the same coils.

I had the same issue with misfires last month and got the CEL but my car didn't store any error codes.
I ended up swamping out the sparks only and it's been smooth sailing since. Also my MPG's got better as well. I have about 53,000 miles on the e93. |

don't just replace the coil thinking it's bad.
there is an easy way to troubleshoot coils. on a bad coil, if you unplug the connector, the idle won't change. but on a good coil, if you unplug the connector, the idle will go down and back up. youtube has video about it. |

If you do not have a way of monitoring each cylinder it may be difficult for you. Hopefully your mechanic can assist you with that. Those ignition coils are shit and go bad on everyone. Good luck |

How can I tell which cylinder is 1-6 does it start off all the way on the right as 1 and all the way to the left is 6? I know it's a stupid question but I'm having coil problems too and don't know which cylinder is what number

front of the car 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - Firewall. Firing order I believe is 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4, but someone can chime and in correct.

Ok sweet bro thanks man and another thing my car has been cutting out as I accelerate for about a week now and then finally my engine sharts shaking badley and my service engine light comes on so I pull over and turn it off and then turn it back on and my service engine goes away and it drives normal again but it cuts out only when I accelerate around 4-5k rpm would that be coils? And how can I find out which coil is bad? I already bought a new coil but not too sure which one is bad...

Older thread I know, but glad it was here. Had the same problem of the shutter/CEL on acceleration today and had a code for cylinder 5 misfire. Sounds like a not so uncommon problem. 40k miles, sounds like new plugs are in order for me...
