Sure you want a 6 pot oil burner........how about an 8 pot petrol and AWD. Forget FWD and skitterish RWD and inner tyre wear Under £30k, 2007, good spec., 37k miles, never been thrashed (honest), no rattles or nasty squeaks etc......tempted?

Seriously though, I'd hang out for a good 335d if you're definitely going the oil burner route. And as Oli says why not sell yours privately and go hunting with cash.

Have had it for sale for a while but the market is very slow, hence why I enquired about trading it in. Ideally would like to sell privately, which would then give me a chance to look at cars for sale privately aswell those in dealers/garages.

Any opinions on the price of the car in my first post?

Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the reply!
No, the 330 is proper quick, the audi was just brisk.

The 0-60 is quite good on the audi, but that is partly to do with the 4x4 meaning it's quick off the line. A 2wd version wouldn't as as quick in the same sprint I expect.....although once up and running it may be a bit quicker due to less transmission loss and less weight.

But no, defo not as quick as the Bimmer, after all, its 35 bhp and 130ftlbs down (LCI 330d).

Also my 330 sounds much better!

Actually, my mate with the audi drove my car last weekend and he said it was, and I quote, "a beast".... he then proceeded to say he wised he'd got the 3.0tdi audi!

Not keen on the colour - boring silver!

The first car, the leggy Le Mans Blue one was pretty much perfect spec-wise - but I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage aslong as it has full service history. Probably about £1500 overpriced.

Yep, prefer the Le Mans Blue myself.

I reckoned the first one was worth about 16.5/17k myself, and that in the trade my car would be worth around the same,
which was why I originally thought it was a reasonable deal to do a straight swap.
Apparently it has full SH but the seller told me it has quite a few stone chips and the alloys could do with a refurb,
at least he was honest but it would lead me to believe the previous owner wasn't exactly an enthusiast.

No deal.

I did a straight swap for my 123d M Sport Coupe for a E90 330d in November 2009 due to a baby. This was at Reading BMW Coopers.

My 123d spec:

2007 (57 plate) with 32,000 miles.

Titanium silver, Blk Leather, iPod connectivity

My 330d Spec:

2006 (56 plate) with 32,500 miles, BMW Approved warranty.

Le Mans Blue, Blk Leather, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, Heated Seats and all the other standard E90 M sport goodies that the 1 series didn’t get (Cruise, auto wipe etc).

I remapped her and I absolutely did the right thing - absolute DEAL.

Yours just isn’t a good deal. At all.

Shop around.

Car is nice... Just miles? I wouldnt buy a car that has more than 35k on. Is there nothing on the aproved BMW Scheme? BMW tend to (IMO) do much better deals when pushed.

Just been reading this thread with interest, as always!!!

As someone who has been offered a straight swop with this particular 123d, I can say its a nice car. But I am selling to release cash and looking to perhaps go the HP route, so a swap wasn't an option. (In case your wondering Alex, you emailed me off pistonheads).

Anyway, I am interested in why you lot go on and on and on about Mileage? I would argue my 72k 335d is in better nick than most on here. As I meticiously look after it, have it detailed, paint protected, regularly valetted and fully serviced at my BMW dealer.

A very good friend of mine is a master tech for VW, and in his opinion a car with miles on the clock and regularly serviced is a far more reliable one than something that has not been driven or only used for shorter journeys. He says more often than not, Engines don't have time to warm up, diesel turbos' don't cool down properly + lots of other things that can all add up to mechanical failure.

My car is a privately owned 335d and has been looked after despite having more miles than others...especially compared to an ex-lease or company vehicle that will have been abused by its owner who didn't give a s**t.

Personally, I think mileage is nothing more than a bargaining tool. Simple.... I wouldn't hesitate in buying a higher than average mileage car providing its been well maintained and has full dealer service history.

Because we can't know how well a 72k car has been cared for and as mentioned, after a couple of years of ownership, it will be around 100k, which is a Psychological barrier in any book

Even if you’re the most fastidious owner there ever was, mileage will always take it toll on parts, such as bearings, shocks, bushes and so on.

My E90 is silver, and I reckon it looks the tits! Blue's very nice too though - only colour I can't stand is the charcoal gray.

An interesting perspective from Wh|t3R@bb|t too

Of course, but there just parts which every car will have replace at some point. Most likely within 12 months of another one which has more miles etc.

If it has got to 72k in a few years then safe to saY IT has done many journeys where everything got upto temp.

Interesting....

If someone buys the car from me, and does similar mileage then yes. In 2 years your looking at 90+K. However, if someone buys the car who doesn't do the mileage, in a couple of years it will still only have 80ish.

I am intrigued by the "physiological" barrier....does this mean your body physically stops you from buying one. ha ha. Surely you mean psychological..

Also, how can you not tell if its been well looked after? Do you ever check your cars? I have even sent private inspectors to look at cars, even in dealerships, as often even they can miss basic stuff.

I have a stack of reciepts, invoices, service stamps, warrenty work, valeting costs etc that do indicate the car has been looked after. The engine bay is cleaned regularly, the a frame pillars are cleaned and polished, and little touches that make the difference between a car and MY car. So I am bemused by you comment on how you can't tell.

Agreed about wear and tear items, but if anything major went on my car my dealer has already said they would speak to BMW Uk to agree any god will gestures/contributions as its been fully maintained/serviced with BMW main dealers.

I think it all boils down to personal preference....if high mileage cars aren't for you, then fine. Spend the extra money and get what you want. But my point is a general comment of "avoid high milers" has always frustrated me. And again, is probably down to doing the mileage i do, but knowing how well I look after my cars.

I agree mate. When buying a used car its great to see all the old receipts. See whats been done when etc. Shows that they actually cared.

That's my point, you can't, so all you're efforts only go so far.

i think when your upto 70k miles for top end car, your not going to get floods of people buying this car,i agree its in people heads,as people say next person that owns it, its not going to be long till there upto 90k, if i was buying a used 335d i would give 2-3k more for a lower miles spec car,but thats just me
OT
i sat in a lorry today it was 56plater it had 300000kms and he said the last one he sold had 900000kms lol so i guess our cars should do 150k easy
