ELM327 v1.5 Cable vs Mini Adapter?

I'm on the cusp of purchasing this so I can use BMWhat, but I'm just trying to see what option is better for error reading and coding? I've read that with the BT Adapter you can't code, but then others say that's B.S. and they have coded just using the BT adapter opposed to having a cable with the OTG connector for cellphone/tablet usage..

I am curious about this as well. I have read different things regarding which BT adapter you use. I was planning on just getting the OBD2 to male USB and connect it to my iPhone 6 using Apple's female USB to Lightning adapter.

Not quite sure if the iPhone supports that cable yet?? Maybe it's just BMWhat that I'm thinking, but I just read someone (i think it was on 1addicts) that they tried to use that cable with their iOS device and it wasn't working so they found another cable to make it happen.. Then again, I may be wrong...

I guess it'd be wiser to just spend the extra $15 and get the BMWhat adapter to avoid issues since I am unsure if many people have used the ELM327 with BMWhat successfully..

I use one of the blue Elm327 mini devices with BMWhat. Using an android so not sure if that differs from iphone, but no issues. Device was under $10 shipped on ebay.

I just bought the $8.99 Blue Mini ELM327 v1.5 from WOWAutoParts on Ebay

I just also read another thread of someone saying it works perfect with their BMWhat app on Android (which is what I have) so yayyy!! Thanks brother!

weird I have that same exact inpa cable but mine doesn't work.. Hopefully the Mini ELM is problem free..

Almost one year using it without a problem..

I have never use my bpm sport cable......

I am not associated with these but I bought once this and worked well scanning for error codes in 2 cars E90 and E91 using BMWhat on android phone.. and I could see different engine parameters shown... while driving.

No coding.

So I spoke to soon..

I ordered a K+DCAN and an ELM327 Mini and neither of them work

I can connect to the ELM327 but when using BMWhat Lite and I try to run a diagnostic it just sits on the loading bar forever and never does anything.. I've written them and was basically told to just try one of their branded adapters.. Pretty annoying that some post their success stories with the same setup and then others such as myself get stuck trying multiple devices until one finally works.. I ordered my dongle from Amazon from the link that multiple people reported success with.. Just my luck I guess..

Pretty sure it can, both devices I've tried to run with it have not worked so I can't fully say yes or no..
