That's the cost these days of removing two doors from a sedan... Nothing you can do about it...

Well the coupe includes sport suspension and fold down rear seats. Those cost $1100 extra on the sedan. So really the coupe is only marked up $900 if you would normally choose those options.

The demand for coupes are not as great as the sedans! Different production changes have to be made for the new body style. It just not simply removing the 2 doors and making a longer door.

What about the sport steering wheel included in the coupe and the seatbelt holders? That's a few hundred $ difference. So the coupe is not that more expensive compared to the sedan after all.

True I forgot about sport steering wheel. Seatbelt holders are not necessary on the sedan...they are reachable due to the location of the B pillar.

And the number 1 reason the coupe is more expensive than the sedan:

Why not? People who want the coupe will pay the extra money for it..

So to answer the OP: because it can be!!

I'm sure that extra doors and hardware (handles, power windows, door locks, etc.) cost more than a sport steering wheel and seat belt holders.

The extra money BMW charges for the coupe is just becuase they can (as Josh mentioned). Coupe buyes obviously have more superfluous income then sedan owners since they don't have kids

When I bought my M3 sedan, the price for coupe was identical.

The 335 sedan gets the same steering wheel. Check the threads.

Younger buyers will pay more for the coupe because of the opinion that coupe are more "sporty" than sedans.

Also much less competition for the coupe. The G35, TL, C350, and A4 (although there is a convertable A4) aren't available in a coupe.

They build less of the coupe... it is a simple function of marketing it as more upscale (example: 328 coupe has chrome window casing, sedan does not) as well as the forces of supply and demand. It makes perfect sense
