I need some advice on how repair this. The scratch is not deep, and when I run my finger along it, it only feels like the initial layer of silver pain came off.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like it is through the paint and will need to be repainted.

Stop by a body shop and see what they tell you.

That looks like it went in deep actually, through the paint and clearcoat..might need to be done by a body shop..goodluck

Would you say that this is something too much for touch up paint? I went to a body shop today and they wanted to charge over $1,000 to replace the bumper cover. I just told them that I wanted the paint fixed, and they just told to pick up paint from the dealership. I just really don't have the money to buy a whole new bumper cover right now.

Body shop will tell you much more than us. My guess is strip paint, re-sand and prep, then repaint.

Do it right the first time.

You need it repainted. Shouldn't be over 300 bucks.

touch it up until winter is over somone might rear end you anyway...Wait nvm just saw your in ATL. I remember someone hit our familys benz and we got the fender fixed and 2 weeks later someone ran into us and it was just like damn could've never got it fixed

We have a mobile company that does auto reconditioning like this scratch repair, curb rash repair, bumper painting. They do good work and paint bumpers for like $100. All the local dealers use them and they stay busy including local bmw dealer. Its always cheaper to call them your self and get a price than doing it through the dealer. They have painted many on diffrent cars for me and the color match was flawless. I see your in Atlanta and they work in Macon as well which is not that far. I can give you the info if you like.

Order some Dr Colorchip. It works great. Ive used it even on large areas like you have and it still covers good.

Those aren't scratches, they are chips. You must get the bumper repainted, otherwise it will look gross.

You could have tried Doctor Colorchip had they been much smaller (like road rash), but those are pretty significant chips, and I guarantee they are down to the primer, if not the body.

In the end, it all depends on how you want the car to look at the end result I suppose. Myself, I would definitely have a BMW certified body shop with a good rep respray.
