Help with new rims
I have a new 335xi Special Edition coming and sadly by the time it gets here I'll very quickly have to swap out the rims for winter tires and rims
I'm looking at some VMR VB3 in this size: 18x8 +38 offset And planning on putting some 225/40 R18 Michelin X-Ice2 NON RFT. Will this setup work? I'm just never sure about the offset in particular. The car is coming with 225/35-19 front and 255/30-19 (I believe). |

I believe common wisdom has been 17" wheels for winter driving with all four of the same size, not staggered. 17" wheels are slimmer and thus plow through snow more easily than 18". Staggered is a no-no for basically the same reason, bigger back tires means harder to plow through the snow.
And on an XI; unless things have changed I didn't think BMW recommended staggered set ups for an AWD models. At least in the E46's that was the case. |

I'd also say go with the square 17's. Hit up tire rack. It'll show you exactly what you can use. Also, when do you get the car? I pick up my E90 on October 8.

The wheel should be a 18x8.5 +40. If so, then 225/40 is perfect.

Things have changed then. My e92 xi came stock with 18" staggered wheels. And while wider and larger wheels may not be ideal for winter, they still work fine. I use my 18" staggered stock wheels during the winter and some 19" staggered ones for summer.

A 225 would still work perfectly fine.

I'm trading in my 07' 335xi for a 11' SE. DILEMMA: I have SWEET 19" OEM 3-PC w/run-flats that are near life-end AND 18" Stock sport wheels with Hankook Ice Bears for winter (newer).
I will absolutely need winters on the new 335 and it will come with 19" R-craps so I'll have summers, but do I trade my 07' with the sweet 19"s and then just use my existing 18" winters? Or should I trade it with the 18" winters and keep the sweet 19"s, buy new Blizzaks at $1500. Point: I'm not getting any extra value for the trade with the sweet 19"s...so I don't really want to give them to the dealer. Counterpoint: While I love the 19" 3-pc wheels...I'm not sure running 19" Blizzaks (235/35/19) is the best winter option. Thoughts? |
