Clay Vs......

All right.

As i work through cars - I am finding the most time intensive process on any car (barring a compound up refinish) is claying.....

I am anal retentive when it comes to getting the paint perfect.... so 2 hours on a clay job is not unheard of.....

The question is - I have seen a product on one of those shows on sunday morning - touting a liquid Clay...... Meaning you apply it with a DA or Rotary and it obtains the same results as the Clay ......

Is this snake oil???? Any one have experience with it?

I imagine it doesn't work. How can a liquid be tacky enough to trap and lift dirt out of the clearcoat?

Even if it did work, I imagine it won't do it to your satisfaction anyway.

Yes it's snake oil. However, if it is taking you that long to clay, you may be using too mild of a clay. Try a more aggressive clay bar, if polishing afterward any marring from it will be removed anyway and it will remove the contaminants much faster.

Two hours the first time out sounds right. After than shouldn't be but a touch up operation.

I use a
blue clay for light stuff
purple - SUPER tacky for overspray and heavey contamination.

I have tried both for the initial clean ups and its always 2-2.5 hours depending on the size of the vehicle. Miata's not included ;-) Using the Purple you blow thru qd/lube but it does the job.

Snake oil was my feeling just thought I'd throw it up there

rc'Z - when they come back the touch up is nothing! - well worth the two hours of sweat equity on the first shot - to get the ease of the return visit.
