Berserkerx: You're about 4 hours from VAC if you are in Mansfield, PA. VAC is in Philadelphia.

I did mention this thread (sent the link) to VAC to let them know there are a few people interested in this and if the price isn't too crazy they may sell a few when all is said and done.

Here is the email I'd sent to VAC:
I have a 2006 330i (e90) with an N52 engine and 6-speed manual.

I’m interested in getting more horsepower out of the engine and know I am limited. Forced induction is somewhat dead with the normally aspirated engines due to the advent of the 335 engine. I actually prefer NA engines.

Have you or would you consider doing a performance build of the N52 engine?
Meaning:
1. high-performance crank (if it is needed – stroker to 3.2 L?) – this would also add quite a bit to the cost I imagine
2. forged connecting rods
3. forged pistons with a slightly higher compression ratio (11.5:1 or so), stock is 10.7:1 I believe
4. custom cams or possibly sourced
5. optimize heads (I think the stock heads are ported and polished from the factory so I’m not sure what can be done)
6. port match heads to a header and intake
7. custom tune

There is an interest in getting more HP out of the N/A engines in the e90 community. There may be an interest beyond my one-off build for this if the pricing isn’t out of this world and if a decent amount of HP can be made. I’m not sure if it’d be possible, but 310 – 330hp would be the goal.

Well considering i've seen a bored out 330 before reach 300hp, i assume it can be done with the stroker.

Does anyone happen to know what size of injectors that our N52 comes with stock? I saw somewhere that it is a 180 cc. I can't even remember where but thats what I saw. But according to an online calculator that wouldn't even be enough to supply 255 crank hp for an NA I6.

Also I found on their website that the ZF tranny can withstand roughly 1000nm or 700 lbft of tq.

I am really looking forward to hearing what Vac has to say. I would love to get one company that could do it all so that we know it would not have any issues. I personally though am still on the fence about FI or NA. I can tell you one thing though I am sure I want water meth lol.

Well unfortunately because Gavin has been MIA with zero updates on the Supercharged build we are all in the dark as to if it'll still happen. I'm preparing to assume the worst and bottle feed this mofo a 75 shot.

I hear what you're saying there. I know he is trying but lately Ive started to have my doubts. Im not a nay-sayer by any means, and I hope he is successful. It just seems like its a tall order. I think I would be more interested in the custom internal route instead. Seems a bit safer.

Hey have you happened to hear back from VAC yet? I emailed Geoff at full race and gave him the link to this thread. He was wondering if there was anyone who really wanted to do any performance to these cars.

It would be nice if they would offer a rebuilt long block engine with a 3.2L stroker crank, rods, pistons, and ported head. Just pull your engine and change everything over and reinstall and then send your core back to be rebuilt for the next guy. A competent shop could probably chane over the engine in 1 day.

I just sent them another email today asking them if this is possible. They were at the same 12 hour race that I was, but it's difficult to talk to someone when you're in an endurance race so I didn't bug them about it.

Noelle motors has a 3.2 stroker for the N52. They are in Germany though lol. There was an old article for the 4G63 guys "To stroke or not to stroke" I am a bit torn on the idea of a stroker. I used to think hey I don't like how the stroked engine can't revv as high. then I though when the hell do I revv that high anyhow?

Its good to know that Gavin is getting his SC kit up and running. He says 300 with stock internals. I think lower CR with boost and then underdrive that beast!

I responded back with some other questions/suggestions. I'll see what he says.
Okay, here's the response I got yesterday from VAC:

Here is what Schrick had to say about a run of sport camshafts for this engine:
"Everything called VALVETRONIC at BMW which we have so far tested is not good for modifications due to its design.
We will definitively not produce anything for these engines as it will not work as desired."

A stroker crank will run between $4 - $5,000 PER crank (our cranks are made by Arrow Precision and with any crank company there will be a hefty design fee involved) and you will need custom pistons at the very least (about $245 per piston not including rings since these are Alusil bores), maybe stonger rods as well.

Even if the heads are CNC’ed from the factory this does not mean they cannot be improved significantly. For instance, with a valve job only that we developed for the S54 (CNC’d ports) we increase the flow by more than 10%.

A custom tune is no problem. Port matching is no problem as well.

If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Regards,

CJ
