Quicker to launch in 2nd?

Is it truly quicker to launch in 2nd gear?
I've tried this, and it doesn't feel as quick 0 - 40k, feels slow before things start picking back up.

Then again I've never had big traction issues launching in 1st gear.. Would 1st be best at the track or 2nd?

And would shifting at 6200 rpm for a Jb4 FBO car be quicker then letting it go until redline? Boost starts tapering off after 6200 rpm

Thanks guys

if you are running 16+ psi, then launching in 2nd gear would be help you not spin tires, if you are running lower boost then definitely launch on the first gear or you will face extreme lag.

There's no point shifting upper 6200 RPM as the power would be the same till redline, even with JB4.

YOu have no issues with launching from first and no wheel spin? Is DTC engaged or totally off? I can't for the life of me not spin during first gear even with DTC there is wheel slippage, well even on second, and my car is a big fat pig( convertible)!

Is it safe to say that an xi shouldn't bother launching in 2nd gear. I've never had an issue launching in 1st with my fbo car.

What kind of tires do you have? If its the stock Bridgestones...I wouldn't be surprised with this. I have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's and I can launch just fine in 1st without spinning. I have to baby it just a bit once the boost picks up, but it definitely wouldn't benefit me to launch in 2nd.

In an xi, launches would be awesome in 1st gear.

FYI....in just about all my runs I don't shift at 6200rpm.....I let it go to redline

I never understood why people on the forum do this...launching in 2nd gear just sounds stupid to me and puts way too much strain on the clutch and tranny..just my .02 cents

How is that possible that you don't spin tires in 1st?? I find that very VERY hard to believe.

Will the auto even let you take off in second if you are trying to brake torque it and build the revs?
