Packaging a dme for shipping

Very stupid question. Please be gentle...

but let say if I can get a used DME from another 2012+ N55 BMW from a junkyard, would it be possible to get that DME unlocked and install that onto my car for MHD?

For personal reasons, I just can't have my car out for a week or two with its DME extracted. The only tuner in Canada that can do MHD unlock is not very well known and I am just scared to hell to have my DME messed up and my car is out for like a month. I can't even to begin to think how I can explain the situation to my wife LOL.

Edit: I have decided to move forward with taking out my DME to get it unlocked. Any advices on packaging the DME safely so it can arrive in one piece at its destination?

You can, but there is a lot of coding you would need to do to get it to work. Might need to talk with the tuner to see if he can also do this coding.

weehe is right, there will be a lot of coding involved, which means labor. Based on you're sig I can already see you have a JB4 installed, that all depends on what you're looking to get out of the car with the MHD, my best guess is using it as a BEF?

In my opinion, id find out how much that would cost you, if your mechanic deems it possible. And after that it's up to you to figure out the cost benefit.

Best of luck!

Anti-static bubble wrap exists, I'd probably use that
