Just had to buy a new RFT for the rear passenger side. 18k miles down and £172

The guy at the stealer told me that I was expected to check the tyre pressures every three weeks!!!

Incidentally, my warning only came on once the pressure was at 10PSI. Then, it didn't say which tyre it was, so I took further time locating it.

why do i have this feeling beemer are gonna make more profit out of me for tyres, than when i first bought the car...

Had to change my rears at approx 29K and just had my fronts done at 33K. Previously had Continental Sport Contacts, now replaced with Bridgestones all around.

My rears were completely slick in the middle, so i was probably over inflating them (search my previous entries for detail); where as my fronts were all on the edge - as per above entires...

In fact, there was still a couple of mm thread left before they hit the minimum thread identifiers in the ridges/grooves, but they were making a horrible noise around 40MPH (like a low frequency whooshing - it went away if you speeded-up). I had all the geometry and bearing checked but all OK. Allegedly. Anyway, so got them changed as tread was low.

out of interest, the Bridgestones are quieter and have a better ride then the original Contis; but feel softer and not sure they will last as long...

My Bridgestones have got so noisey at 15k I am thinking of changing them and I have about 4-5mm left.

Maybe saving the £20-30 per tyre compared to getting Michelins (as they seem to be the weapon of choice) wasn't worth it, then. Mind you, no-one had them in stock - main reason why I had to get the Bridgestones on the rears (as my original Contis were completely slick!)

PS2 Zero Pressure is the only run flat I would use, they are so much better than every other run flat it is untrue.

They are the only ones that....

Don't wear unevenly
Don't go as hard as concrete when the temperature dips below 6ºc
Don't sound louder than thunder when they get to 8k miles
Don't crash over the slightest bump in the road as if you have filled them with concrete instead of air
Don't skip and bounce about to the point it is almost dangerous going round anything but a snooker table smooth corner


They do actually still skip about a bit on corners, but in every other area they are pretty impressive, still way behind even the cheapest non run flat tyres, but a lot better than all the others available.

Best thing to do is buy a little digital tyre pressure guage and keep it in the car.

I got one from Halfords.

It means you can quickly check your pressures, but more importantly, if the TPS system goes off you can immediately check and identify which tyre (if any) has lost pressure).

What did you have before ?

I agree with the skittishness.

But my main hate is the sensitivity to tramlining. I have had my tracking done 3 times, and it still fidgets on anything other than mirror smooth surfaces.

It is a pain going down a backroad with changing cambers as this adds a whole layer of tramlining noise to the steeering line, requiring constant readiness to add steering trimming (of up to 5-10 degrees) to maintain a line. Bloody tiresome.

In other cars I can position the front wheels to within a *** paper, it's a lottery with my E92 depending on the road surface.
