I agree. With that much $$$$ I can take my time and add things here and there on my car to make it looks/feels/performs exactly like I want. Also, I do quite a lot of driving and the mpg difference is dramatic...adding even more $$$ to savings...or...MODS!!! But of course the disclaimer...it will never be an M car. I also prefer an easily tunable FI engine over a V8. This is a very personal choice for everyone. Good luck. You get a fantastic car either way

What do you mean, i'm already getting the M3 and the 335i and some of there options at a discount price. The base price of a 335i is I think 40,800, i'm getting it for 37,050. And the M3 base price I think if I remember is 56k and I can get it at 51k. So please elaborate more on what you are saying.

Given your discount, get the M3 for sure.

Many of us can get 335is for near invoice, but nobody can get M3s below MSRP

Yeah I figure that the M3 is a great deal and I would be kicking myself if I pass it up. Not to say that the 335i is a bad car by no means.

M3 because like others have said, even though you can make a 335 perform as well as an m3, you still cant make it an M. The driving experience is totally different. An dont forget that you keep the warranty!

if you can afford the M... why not? unless your budget is tight.

Ok got an email from my SA. He sent me an email showing me my savings on the M3 and the 335i. He also let me know how much it would cost if I purchased them from a regular dealer without discounts. Left is stateside price and right is the military sales program.

I think this decision also depends on what type of driver and use you have for the car. I have a friend who just ordered a 335i. He was thinking about the M3, however, he will never track the car, he does about 15 miles highway driving every day and is not really into cornering or handling performance. The only reason he was considering the M3 was the 414 HP running through his head. I thought for him the 335 was a better choice. Cost of ownership will be much higher for the M3 and the gas milage is also significantly different. How much fun will you have at $4 per gallon gas?

It's a nice dilemma to have but think about your driving, application and how long you plan to keep the car.

+1 If you are going to use the M3 as a daily driver and your commute to work is long or through heavy traffic, the M3 is going to cost you a pretty penny in gas. In my opinion, it really isn't suited to be a DD through heavy traffic, unless you have tons of money to throw away and don't care about shifting a hundred times on the way home. It is truly the perfect second car / weekend car.

The 335i will be better suited to daily driving, with dramatically better gas mileage, and can be modded to perform pretty close to an M3. That being said, it's not an "M" and will never be an M and with the M you will not have to spend more $$ to mod it.

I noticed that the difference between the two just went up by $14k. That's not peanuts. Sorry if I'm making your decision harder!

Let me explain. A couple of hours ago I just went through a 300 minute calling card talking with my wife. She is also into cars a little. She said she got a brochure that I had sent to the house about the M3. And she was reading the specs on it and when she saw the mpg she didn't like it. We talked about how gas is on the rise and how its not coming back down anytime soon. So we decided it was best for me to get the 335i now as a daily driver and next year to get the M3 as a weekend car. So I am very cool with that, its like a win win situation.

Congrats on the 335i. I am also a contractor that participated in the military sales program overseas and purchased a e92 335i. I am awaiting delivery and should have it in a week or so.
