20 dollar cable from eBay. (usb to OBDII)
Program free to download. And your laptop. Been using it for 4 years on about 5 BMWs ranging from a 2000 328i to 2003 M3....2005 x5..... And now 2007 335i. This will get you going till 2010 vehicles....I think.... Could be wrong. DN |

The above reply sounds good. I'm in the uk but could you send a link to the USB/obd cable and software you use. Il search the uk web for similar cable. Mine is a 2007 so should be ok.

The one I have looks identical (image and description) but I remember verifying that my car model/year was marked as compatible in the description. 20$ seems about right. It came with a cd with INPA but I never got it to work even with the instructions. I had to search for my own INPA "package". Search in the coding forum here or elsewhere. Once you get it to work you'll be like It makes the BMW dealer visits more enjoyable since you know what they are seeing before they see it...

You can find them for $15 on amazon. I think OP wants to clear hidden codes too which the OBD2 scanner won't do.

Thanks for the ebay link, I plan to buy that cable, ive had a little look in the coding bit on here, is there a name for the free software that is used with that cable.
And as above I do need to clear some of the deeper codes (straight away when I get it I plan to clear the DPF codes) |

All the software is already on the CD you get.
In addition, I recommend downloading BMWlogger free program. BMWlogger does the follow things really fast. 1. Register a new battery 2. Read and clear DME codes only. 3. Reset full Adaptations. I really thing for deep diagnosing, that one should buy BMWlogger. Just haven't gotten into a situation or the need to yet. DN |

Please elaborate and tell us what cable also. I thought you had to have a RJ45(network cable to OBDII)? Got a picture of the cable? DN |

I now have BMWhat app for android, they also have it for IOS. Very handy, costs about $60 plus a bluetooth ELM adapter.
I also have BMWlogger and it is good for reading and clearing codes for the DME. BMWhat goes a step farther and allows you to read and clear non-DME module (as well as DME) codes. Helped me figure out an ABS sensor issue recently. It also has some coding functionality which I haven't tried yet. |

Cable of eBay
Got my cable today. Tried loading the cd but the instruction video in is Chinese.
Can anyone help me with an English instruction. If I need to give what cd I have please let me know what I need to show so I get the correct installation instructions. Better yet I have the cable now so if there is a preferred software to use could someone advise on it and also some installation instructions. (not chinese thought) I would love to try this cable tomorrow so any help will be great. |
