Mr. Clean Magic Eraser- Good or Evil?

I am thinking about using this on my rims which have a lot of built up residue. Anyone use it and have good results? Or bad?
I'm nervous it will damage the finish on the rims and cause the paint to crack..

That stuff is like mild sandpaper. It will probably dull the finish...

I have beige interior and have used the eraser to remove scuff marks from shoes on the door sills and door pockets. Never on my wheels though, let us know how it goes.

Google is your friend. It seems that it would be generally better to avoid it, since the eraser is actually a mild abrasive. Especially if the wheels are painted or polished. However, there seems to exist a variant of the Magic Eraser marketed specifically for auto wheels. I'd imagine those should be better... ?
