So my 1967 Camaro was purchased in a very swirly condition. After purchase it had a new engine put in and a new exhaust system which further dirtied the car. I wish I had some before pics for you to see, the thing must have been swept with one of those auto brushes at those drive-in do-it-yourself car washes for at least 100 car washes...just uck. So I decided it was about time to man up and detail it. I only did the exterior and all the windows inside and out, besides that nothing was done on the inside as it didn't really need it and isn't my DD car. The paint is fairly old on the car, my guess is at least 5 years old from the looks of it. It wasn't faded and must have been garage kept, but whoever painted it did a less than perfect job. That, or the body panels were in less than perfect condition and just painted over regardless. Took me a good 9 hours to do this job and that did not include the wash/clay. I appologize for the lack of before pictures, my dad had the digital camera at his work when I told him I would need it. Also, in the pictures you will see a lot of haze. I realized my camera was below par and was also running out of time so I could not completely wipe doen sections for mere demonstration. The smudges are NOT haziness caused from buffing.

Top section above the split between hood and quarter panel was not done, lower section of the picture was done:


Left half of the hood was polished, right half not polished. I am a little bit of a messy detailer .

Unfortunately, I do not have the best camera or the best lights, so I had to leave a little strip so you guys could better see a sort of 50/50.

I really wish I had a better camera as this one makes the swirls look insignificant. Imagine what you see in the first picture swirled nicely all over the whole car . Took me a while but I got them all out.

Process was wash with Detailer's Pride Auto Shampoo (formulated for foam cannons) Personally, I have never seen a car wash that adds such a shine by itself. It even feels like it has just been polished and thats only after washing! I haven't tried Chemical Guys yet but have used the Zaino wash, most of the car washes at AutoZone, and the dealer's wash. My second favorite is Zaino, but absolutely pales in comparison to the DP. Then I did a clay bar job(not much dirt plagued my paint to be honest) and rewashed the car. The I rolled her in the garage and polished with Menzerna SIP on an orange pad, buffed all the polish off with MF towels and went over the car with Detailer's Pride Final Gloss. To be honest, I don't like it that much as it streaks really badly and the streaks are damn near impossible to wipe off(anyone got a good substitute that will shine the car like no other but not smear and streak?). Good thing this wasn't my final step . So then I applied via white pad Menzerna Finishing Glaze and then buffed it off with MF towels. Then sealed with Menzerna Sealing Wax APO.

I might detail a black Porsche or Mustang in the next couple of days, so that might better speak to my abilities as a detailer. The Camaro had a really flat, dull, dirtied, and swirled paint job when I got it, wish I had a complete before picture for comparison. So the difference to me is just 100x better than what it was. The clearcoat on it just isn't of the same brilliance/gloss as compared to the BMW.

Thanks! Almost everyone I see when I drive it likes it. I had a middle aged man and his much younger hot as hell wife in a Ferrari stop and tell me how beautiful the car was and how they wish they had one(hell man, if you are reading this I will trade you lol). I also love the feeling of absolutely no traction even though I have a Posi LSD in the rear. Tires just aren't big enough to hold 500+hp on a car like that. Slam it in 2nd gear at 35 mph and you spin a little but the thing would absolutely bend the 335i over backwards up to 110. Haven't had the balls to push it any further but it is a car that I really really enjoy.

The first part of your process sounds good, but then after SIP you need to follow that up with a finishing polish like 85RD... a few weeks from now when the finishing glaze wears off you are going to see buffer trails. Remember, a glaze has no abrasive, it only fills in swirls and imperfections, but wears off in a relatively short amount of time. also you dont want to use a Quick detailer in between your polishing steps, that would leave a slight amount of protection that would just make the next polishing/sealing step harder. Quick detailer should be saved for last, after the wax. next time try using 91% Isopropyl Alcohol in between polishing steps(the one you get at the drug store), this leaves the paint completely free of any oils or anything from the polish, and wont leave streaks! another thing, the Sealing wax (APO60) has some slight cleaning properties to it; this would have stripped the finishing glaze from the paint...

Sick camaro by the way. this must be the one you are always talking to me about, she's a beauty! is that a 1-stage paint? if so, thats why it acts completely different and looks completely different than any other paint finish. you can tell this if the polishing pad turned the same color as the paint as you were polishing.
