335i Mod Ranking by HP & Torque Gains + $/Gains
Thought I would start a ranking of basic mods by hp and torque based on my very novice knowledge. Feel free to correct me.
Rank. Description (WHP/FTLBs, $COST, $COST/HP, $COST/FTLB) 1. Tune (40/60, $500, $13, $8) 2. Meth Set up (30/40, $1000, $33, $25) 3. Catless Downpipe (15/25, $650, $43, $26) 4. Intercooler (10/15, $1000, $100, $67) 5. Performance Exhaust (10/15, $1000, $100, $67) 6. Intake (5/10, $400, $80, $40) 7. High Flow Filter (3/5, $50, $17, $10) Last edited by AJG1137; 07-20-2011 at 10:58 AM.. |

I am not bothering with JB+ and Cobb because the N55 JB3/N54 JB4 and the Procede are superior. I am trying to account for "best of breed" within each mod category.

Like I said. This is based on my limited knowledge and novice level experience. So yes... ignorance. I did not mean to offend anyone. I actually thought that JB and Procede were generally thought to be the two best, most widely adopted tunes for the money.
Also, according to this comparison, http://n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7520 , the procede and JB look like the best. Let me restate the list: I look forward to further input 1. Tune: 40whp 60trq $500 $13/hp $8/ftlb 2. Meth Set up: 30whp 40trq $1000 $33/hp $25/ftlb 3. Catless Downpipe: 15whp 25trq $650 $43/hp $26/ftlb 4. Intercooler: 10whp 15trq $1000 $100/hp $67/ftlb 5. Performance Exhaust: 10whp 15trq $1000 $100/hp $67/ftlb 6. Intake: 5whp 10trq $400 $80/hp $40/ftlb 7. High Flow Filter: 3whp 5trq $50 $17/hp $10/ftlb Last edited by AJG1137; 07-20-2011 at 11:06 AM.. |

This is going to be a hard list to swallow (online). Your better of working on something like this in excel... One reason N55 JB3 is priced in at: 379 (50hp/60tq). N54 JB4 is 479 (80+hp/xx+ tq) and your procede pro ver. is price in at: 945... You can't blanket state that it's $500, as the price varies.
THis is true of all the mods you listed. YOu can get IC like Big Tom's FMIC for $300, a DCI for the N54 for $90 a far cry from the $400 you list... This is not very accurate, with all the price differences... I paid $600 for my custom exhaust system with install... So... YOu have a big job ahead of you, not saying it can't be done, but it's not as simple as your making it out to be...

Ya. I will work on something in excel. I agree that generalizing the prices detracts from the value. Maybe I can work of the official 335i mod list and try to quantify each line item.

This is the route to go
1. tune 2. downpipe 3. meth 4. turbo upgrade No need to buy the other things if you plan on upgrading since most of the hardware will change.

Well the meth already cools down the intake temps so it sorta nullifies the gains from a FMIC. Granted a FMIC is good for everyday driving, but again, if you are going to upgrade your turbro chances are the piping is going to change for the intercooler as well.

Don't forget to spend the $300 for a chargepipe when your upping the boost!
IMO - Tune and Chargepipe should be together. |

Those downpipe numbers are sort of subjective some people have seen 20hp gains or more from downpipes and 15+ hp gain from FMIC..

I was under the impression that a PE was kind of last on the list. Just simply because the price per HP/TRQ. I personally would upgrade suspension before PE.
