carbon buildup thing of the past!!
After almost 4 weeks without my d I finally got her back. Turns out my car had major carbon buildup of course they didn't catch that till after I got 6 new fuel injectors but can't complain. And I got to say the d is running like a monster again even got to put a new mustang gt in its place on the way home and thats still without the jbd. I did ask about other dealers not wanting to fix this under warranty for the guys having issues and he told me no dealer should reject a car as long as its under warranty after all they get paid for the work.

Glad you got your car back well and running. How many miles do you have clocked in on your ride?

Shocking indeed. I just hit 28k and so far show no signs of degradation in performance (knocking on wood from my desk right now ). Sure I got the usual SES and brake/traction lights but those were not carbon build-up/injector issues. Guess it's a luck of the draw for the '11 models apparently and we're definitely not immune to this problem.
Pray I reach 50k without any problems and this one might be a keeper!

AzureHaze hopefully you don't go through it but i rather it happen if its going to before 50k so its free of charge. After the se told me they did 6k of work just to change the injectors the first time my mouth dropped.
And no dde replacement they took apart the cylinder head and sent everything out for cleaning reassembled everything with new gaskets and sent me on my way. |

At worst he goes in to finally get a DDE. At best, he has all new injectors, a clean near carbon free engine and a new DDE. All in all, not bad...though frustrating as hell. My initial .02 millisec of a thought when I get the SES is "I'm selling.." but hearing/reading post about good dealerships and service centers keeps me in check and full of hope that we'll all get it figured out before our warranties expire.

Simple rule for diesels...More fuel means add more air by reducing EGR, hence increase oxygen content. |

135i your one o a few to manage some sense into this. Some have stated that the x5d has more fuel to move the mamoth hence that's why a few of us w either jb RENNtech or others have not haf these issues YET!!

So is that what I have to do drive the hell out my car? Honestly I dont drive hard with this car as much as I did with my last car a gti. I did ask my sa what i can do to avoid this in the future he said what kind of fuel do you use? Did kind of pause for a momment and replied diesel. He went to tell me theres a premium diesel has anyone heard of this because thats news to me. Everywhere ive been to its just diesel #2 no other choice.

Hooper I'm using American Petroleum aka 76. I hv already had my egr replaced earlier around I beleive 20k. The majority of pumps of diesel here don't hv cetane level and when iasked about it they look deers in headlights. After my car went to gets both ox sensor replaced bcause of the urea clogging the system I wad able to speak to the BMW mechanic he had over 20 yrs experience and he told to use additives I.e. diesel injector cleaner and booster and drive the car hard from time to time. He told the epa setup had a flaw and do you believe that SA told me that my diesrl was the car that had mostly visited the shop of all the diesels there in yhe island and he been the maitre d with 20 yrs in BMW. wtf

there isn't much consistency in our theories.
So, I wanted to post something to share my observations with everyone's claims to having the best way to avoid Carbon Build Up (CBU).
1.) Drive the hell out of it: While when maxed out, the EGR seems to be avoided. However, this only stops the issue when driving it hard. Even on race tracks, cars idle and have to run light at some point. So in theory, hard driving will prolong the issue but not resolve it or fix it. 2.) JBD: By using the JBD, you introduce more fuel. From my understanding, that is all you introduce. There is no control of the air/egr. Not sure how this would help. 3.) Tune: Theoretically, this could help. I have no idea what values are changed, but this could work. I have no support, one way or the other. |

J the parameters for fuel air mixture are changed with a piggyback or flash, Like someone stated the x5d dont have HALF our issues, it could a better EGR or fuel mixture NO ONE can really pin point it but it also leads to that

Im in so cal and never have I seen anything but regular diesel I usually go to chevron or 76 its funny that you brought up additives rican I asked if that would help and my se eyes lit up and said no no no dont do that but a mechanic told you to use them. Im guessing the mechanic would know more though.

When the oxygen sensor detects too rich of a mixture, it signals the MAF for more air, thus reducing EGR valve opening for increase O2 content. The O2 in a diesel compensates with air, O2 is a gasoline engine compensates with fuel.
