Thanks.. after reading the fine print and the many customer bad experiences on google, I think I would stick with the universally approved Allianz Extended Warranty if it was me..

But hey... each to their own

Sounds like a fair enough price, assuming your happy with coverage and you will still have the car in 5. Personally I'd take the money an spend on upgrades

This is what I get back from my broker.

National on the other hand have unlimited claims up to the price of vehicle. No excess. Servicing as per vehicle handbook. Service at any licensed mechanic Australia wide. Full protection for 5 years. All parts covered except for the normal service parts like brakes etc.

I have this cover and within the first six months my rocker cover gasket went as did the water pump. Both times I was told to take the car to their approved garage (not a BMW specialist) to have the problems fixed. It was only after the work was done that they quoted some small print to say I somehow wasn't covered.

as a result I had to pay a non-BMW specialist garage to do the work for twice what I could have had it done for (my flatmate works for BMW Sydney and I could have just took the car there).

This is a particular favourite clause of theirs I laugh at:

After the problem has been diagnosed (at your cost), the authorised repairer will fax NWC, quoting your Warranty contract number, current odometer reading of the Vehicle, a description of the problem, the repairs required, and the estimated cost of repairs.

NWC will then make a decision about whether to exercise its discretion in your favour or not.

......how very fucking kind of them....

Sorry to dig up an old thread - but I have had some luck dealing with NWC even after purchasing a warranty some years ago.

I recently received a full refund from National Warranty Company for the dud policy I was sold. I used a template letter from demandarefund.com.au, sent it to Presidian (the company that owns NWC) and within two weeks had a refund.

I couldn't believe it, as I (unintentionally) bought the policy back in 2013. The page is run by a group of lawyers from the Consumer Action group, who were available to follow up on my behalf if need be. Hit them up if you've EVER taken out a dud warranty! I'd even say the original poster might have some luck, even if the policy was bought back in 2012.

last week I saw a quick bit about these 'warranties' on the TV news - apparently the ACCC are coming down on them as a scam. Based on the amount they taken in premiums compared with the amount they payout.

I haven't even had success with the authorised BMW Alliance warranty - so I would rather get a discount on the sale price at time of purchase.

I remember when I bought my car from Qld a few years back. Had read a few of these threads and skipped the warranty (turns out i wouldnt have needed it for the first 2yrs). Wouldn't have minded it this year though #waterpump #gasketcoverleak

I have an extended warranty through Australian Warranty Network and they've been fantastic. My regular mechanic is one of their approved repairers and they pay out every single time I've needed work done.
Keep in mind if a company deny a claim that you feel that they should cover you can always take it to the Ombudsman.

Just a quick one with these warranties as well. Read the fine print. If it states they will only pay for re-conditioned items, forget it. There was a known "scam" where: 1. You must bring it to their network of mechanics, 2. Mechanics will claim they can't source any reconditioned parts and you're not allowed to bring your own, 3. You'll have to pay the difference for the brand new part at a relatively inflated price, essentially making the point of the warranty moot.

When I was young and silly, I was conned into one of these policies by the dealer when I bought a Mk IV Golf. 7 months later I had the front window drop down due to the window clips breaking (known issue caused by plastic clips, the replacement part is metal). Initially they weren't going to cover me because I hadn't serviced the car at the 6 month interval, but I argued that the windows aren't checked in the service anyway.

They sent me to their authorised repairer and they came back with "yep, the clips are broken but they are part of the window, not the power window mechanism, so not covered under warranty". I argued again and they agreed to fix it because it was a $30 part and they wanted to do right by me, etc. Had it all fixed and was hit with a bill for $500 in labour. They argued that even though they agreed to replace the part, the repair still wasn't covered by the warranty, so the labour was my responsibility. I argued with them again, but I couldn't take my car until I paid the mechanic.

So my $2,000 policy cost me $2,470 to replace a $30 dollar part.
