What if insurers start to insist on additional alarm protection and this model is not approved? Could be issues.

I've tried almost every alarm systems on the market over the past 12months. These are the only alarms I can get to work properly on the E9* BMWs. All cat 1 insurance approved alarm systems cut the ignition to immobilise the car. You can't fit a cat 1 upgrade alarm onto a new BMW because you cant just cut the ignition. The car would sense this and light your dash up like a Xmas tree with engine warning lights every time the immobiliser kicked in and cut the ignition. Plus if you started cutting ignition wires or adding a older analogue thatcham approved alarm with out our specialist canbus modules, under your dash would be a string of about 50 wires cut and soldered to make this alarm work and control everything on your car. I assure you your BMW dealer will take one look at the alarm and all the wires and blame any fault you ever have with the car on the wrongly installed alarm system. Insurance approved after market alarms are designed for older scoobys and skylines. Not canbus network fitted cars like the BMW.

As for battery backup, I never bothered to include it with the pager alarms 1) to keep cost down to a min (this is why it's an option) and 2) it's not really necessary on a pager alarm system as they are not going to be able to cut the wireless signal to the pager. I have a battery back up on mine, but then I'm scared into fitting everything to mine because of the number of stories I hear every singal day. I paid £50k plus for my M3 and it's my pride and joy. No scummy tea leaf is going to steal it for the ride of there life at my expense.

Antony is fitting mine Tuesday afternoon, I will be a lot happier leaving it parked up knowing there is some decent security fitted!

I guess the 8 weeks period before BMW has an efficient fix for 3 series will attract customers for Antony.

my husband's spoken to bmw uk who recommended getting a viper alarm anyway - their view was the more security the better. what they are doing is purely software. therefore i doubt it's foolproof in the long-run.anyway my car's being booked in. they were a bit miffed about the 01344 number being used.....he said i found out from a housewife at tesco's....

My thoughts exactly, it's only a matter of time before some wizz kid gets round the software patch, so the more VISIBLE security the better as far as I'm concerned

Yes mines fitted and I'm very happy, flashing window sticker is much less offensive than I'd worried it would be and the remote is smaller and less bulky than it looked in photos.
