Right my wagon is in need in the next couple of weeks for a new set of front discs and pads and rear pads now as these are a consumable item i want to keep them as Genuine as factory fitted OEM but on recent quotes the dealer pricing seems a bit crazy now I have a good relationship with my dealer and my car is under full extended warranty with BMW so my question lies in

1. suck it up pay main dealer prices and continue a good relationship with said dealer helpful if any problems should arise for warranty claims and dealer backup on getting it sorted.

or

2. as like tyres brakes are consumables risk a bit of upset with the dealership and seek to have this work done elsewhere at a reduced labour cost but using full genuine OEM parts. Which wont affect the warranty but might affect the dealers intervention for good will etc based upon loyalty etc

or

3. get competing quotes from independents based upon genuine OEM parts then negotiating the price to be matched with the said dealer could work but could also have you marked as a pain in the arse, skin flint and Dutch auctioneer.

so what do you guys/girls do and what do you suggest?

Does anyone know of a good BM independent specialist based in Warwickshire?

I also want to continue my regular routine servicing with my local dealership as under the value servicing it seams a fair price plus again its keeping that dealer link/relationship going

Most BMW dealers would price match against Independent BMW garages on serviceable work, so long as they are using genuine BMW parts.

If your local dealer is Rybrook Warrick, then I am sure they should.

But for what it's worth, I would and always get the work done at the BMW dealership.

No reason to get brakes at the dealer. Brakes on e90 are so simple. I did my wifes brakes while on cpo and had no issue getting cpo warranty items covered. No way i was paying the almost 700 vs the 250 it cost me to do it myself with oem pads and rotors

I'd use the main dealer for the servicing side of things, to get the stamp in the book if nothing else. After all, the other local Indy in Warwick is Autotech on Lock lane and Anthony down there is almost main dealer pricing anyway!

My old 330i has FBMWSH and it's on 180k. All other 'consumable' bits, such as discs, pads, clutch, flywheel etc are done outside of the main dealer network, and usually by myself. Interim services also done between dealer visits.

You'll probably find that Rybrook is not that much more than an Indy, and of course, they have much better "scenery" to enjoy whilst you're there.

Got both ends hooked up with new discs and pads yesterday at Rybrook Warwick, got a fairly competitive quote price on all works to start and then after last weekends trip to Goodwood I popped by to get it booked in after a brief chat and negotiation with the service manager I had the bill down a bit more to something unbeatable.

So again thanks for your comments and as a relatively new owner to BMW coming from years of VW ownership it's just a bit strange now having a dealership who seem to genuinely care are willing to be fair and negotiate a bit which has been a totally alien experience to be honest.

Hopefully they look after you and your car as well as they have me and mine tomorrow. When you in there have a look at the purple i8 parked next to the service desks it's bloody gorgeous nicest i8 I have ever seen

I did the rear brakes on my X5 myself (i think i posted up here about them not actually needing done! and the bitch of a job replacing the brake wear sensor for no reason!), but as the it's in getting new locks asked if they'd fit the EBC Yellow Stuff and Mtec discs on the front, i've bought to fit and they said they only fit BMW parts. Weird as i take all my own s**t to Nissan when the fat datsun gets serviced and they happily do whatever i ask with whatever parts i supply. I even got Tesco windscreen wipers delivered straight to them once!
