2009 328i 6mt, w/ sport package.

If I go to non RFT tires, will the sport suspension still be decent?

Had a 135i m-sport, handling was the worst of any car I've ever owned. Harsh and floaty. Went to nonRFTs and it was so bad my GF would get car sick on the bad roads of NYC.

I'll replace oem shocks and struts with Bilstein units when it's time. Not willing to drop the car at all.

Don't want to repeat this bad experience! Hope the e90 is better

Since you are from Baltimore and I am from one of the southern suburbs, I will give my opinion. I started with a bone-stock non-sports suspension with OEM RFTs. The ride was a bit harsh and floaty as you described. I initially changed to Bilstein B6, which are designed as a direct replacement for the non-sports. I think you would do B4 but don't quote me. It killed the floatiness to a large degree.

But frankly none of the harshness bothered me all that much as I was used to harsh suspensions.

Any change you make is very dependent on which RFTs you have, how much air you put in them, plus what dampers you have. Expectations of course as well. And then what non-RFTs you choose. Just going to non-RFTs shouldn't do all that much other than make it a bit less harsh and change a little they way it feels on the road and on corners.

Of course, I changed all my suspension later on as can be seen in my signature block, but that was for different reasons than yours.
