i have used all brands of tyres,on a 500 bhp gtst (rwd) skyline i found falken 452 to be spot on,just as good as any higher priced tyres, even did a few track days on them and they were good, the new 453 are even better,im currently on P-zero,great tyre but only marginally better than the falkens, they wear better and last longer, bit more stable in high speed (130+ mph) cornering but thats about it

I had the 452 on my Focus ST with 300bhp. Thing I didn't like about them in the wet at least was you either had grip or didn't. There was no progression it was just on or off.
Other than that they were very good.

Through the steering wheels only compounds the effect, had them on for about 4 weeks before swapping to Conti's.

Great thread! Thanks Mega for our views on so many tyres, you've driven even more varieties than I. I must say I agree, premium tyres are in a different league.
My current summer tyres are Michelin PS ZPs which I love though I may just try some contis next. My winters are Falken Eurowinters. They are a total disaster in anything other than snow, shocking tyres which at times border on dangerous, they were particularly bad for the first 1000miles. I'm looking to replace with premium winters, but the choice is very limited, looks like Pirelli Sottozeros are the only choice, but I should like to stand corrected! |

Michelin Alpin are also worth a look...

Thanks, read the reviews and they are better (autoexpress) than the Sottozeros, no Sottozeros in stock so the decision was easy, Alpin PA4s on order, HS439s will be history! (Some reasonable tread left on the fronts if anyone wants to make me an offer)? But after my review I doubt it
Michelins top for dry handling, I'm not so bothered about the snow handling since it's such a small proportion of the winter. Probably the worst aspect of the HS439s is the poor turn in and lack of feel, wet grip is terrible. I'll get a review added some time in the New Year with a few thousand miles down Last edited by spirocheter; 12-19-2013 at 09:57 AM.. |
