With all the problems plaguing the twin-turbo engines, why does BMW insist that the next generation BMW's will be all turbo engines...I mean it's not confirmed, but it's looking that way.

It would be nice if they have at least one natural engine in each model. NA engines are a lot more reliable.

It's all a matter of emissions and fuel economy.
A turbo engine can be designed to provide cleaner exhaust and better fuel economy for a given size, which equates to weight, and power output.
Also the engines are produced with a budget in mind.

P-cars are producing better HP with small 6 engines, instead of the usual V8's, but they are pricey to replace.

What problems are plaguing the 3 series turbo engines? I guess if you tune the engine to 400+ hp, use shitty low-octane gas, and don't do regular oil change, then problems are bound to happen.

Otherwise, the stock N54 is extremely reliable, minus the HPFP which is not related to the engine.

8000km (BMW approved mobil 1 or castrol syntec). Almost 70,000km so far on my E92 335i and not a single problem with the engine. No weird sound, no rattling, etc

+1... I don't seem to have any engine problems except for issues unrelated to the engine (ie. HPFP, some transmission hose gasket..)

Sorry for the misinformation there. I am talking about the parts necessary to have a turbo engine. Such as Hpfp, injectors, etc. There has just been many reports of people having their cars in the shop once a week or twice a week due to failed parts.

I've never had my hpfp fail. Neither have 98+% of people who drive cars with N54's. Sure, more than a 1% fail rate is unacceptable; but assuming everyone who drives these cars is wallowing on the side of the road with check engine lights is, well, silly.

HPFP is not related to a Turbo architecture, it's related to direct injection. You can expect to see HPFP on all future engines, turbo or not, as DI nets a 5-10% gain in efficiency (the Hyundai Sonata has DI and boasts better fuel efficiency with equivalent or superior power than any of the non-DI engines from the competition).

98+% of people have no HPFP fail in n54s? Is that "real information" or misinformation?
