One K+DCAN Cable for Coding...

lmk whether you have the 09+ model car or Pre-09... if it's pre-09 i would solder the pin 7-8 for you if not i'll disconnect the soldering between pin 7-8

Interested but why do you need to solder anything?

I thought 06s just needed Kcan and post 06 needs Dcan.

It depends on the application and vehicles you are using it in, some older chassis cars have two K-Lines, one on pin 7 and one on pin 8 so most cables have pins 7-8 connected/soldered to accomodate that.

07-09 D-CAN cars don't use pin 8 but still does use pin 7 so the cable continues to work fine, but in 09-10 BMW re-used the pin 8 position for ethernet, so if you have an interface that has pin 7-8 connected (and most of the ones you find on eBay and such do), you'll get errors trying to communicate with the car because of the ethernet connection at pin 8 interfering with the D-CAN connection on pin 7.

This is one reason I'm planning to get a J2435-1 compliant cable and try it out (to be used in the times I don't want to break out the big orange OPS head). EDIABAS supports J2435-1 passthru and a compliant cable, like a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 cable should work on any model without modification.

And it should work with ISTA online at www.bmwtechinfo.com for diagnostics and programming.

DOH! I just bought a USB cable on eBay, from a seller in Ontario. You're telling me that there's a good chance it might not work with my 09?

just take out the solder between pin 7 and 8..... just check it when you get it... that's all

No. It should work just fine. You might just need to desolder pins 7 and 8.

Most eBay sellers are starting to catch on and start offering cables with the pins disconnected and supply an adapter for older cars to link pins 7 and 8.
