how much are people paying at dealers when they're replacing coil packs and injectors??

wish I'd seen this bloody thread before buying a 320i coupe in January!!

Sod's law has royally screwed us over, too - the 3 month warranty ran out a week ago and today I get an engine light pinging and slightly rough idling

I'm not to sure about costs as I have the extended warranty cover, I had to contribute to my last repair as I wanted a cylinder doing that BMW warranty would not cover, my previous threads explains why.

The only thing I would say to you is if you look at the people on this thread you will find that taking your car in and having say 1 cylinder done usually does not solve the problem, the other cylinders tend to go very soon after. I had 2 cylinders done early last week then by the end of the week I was sat at the roadside with the car running on 3. A very similar story happened to another member, look over the last 2 pages!

If I were in a position where I was paying for it I would drive it in and if they confirmed any misfires on any cylinder I would have the lot done! 4 Injectors, 4 Coils and 4 plugs.

Good luck!

It was Jotty who has a very similar experience to myself. It seems that when one goes it brings on the others. Jotty has mentioned his is ok following the lot being done and mine seems to be behaving itself following all 4 being done but we both had engine light and 3 cylinder running only days after having some of the cylinders done!

Ive started praying to the BMW Gods for forgivness Please let my car now be ok

I spoke to a BMW specialist earlier who did admit he saw coil packs go quite often, but when asked about the injectors he said they hardly ever needed replacing.

I read a chunk of the thread before posting up earlier and had come to the conclusion that it'd be best to get all four cylinders sorted at the same time. Less labour for one thing...

Has anyone done this themselves? My indie said the coil packs were ~£40 each and book time was 30-45 minutes, so it can't be that hard? (famous last words eh)

I'm about to dig deep and try and read this whole thread....

Mine is also still behaving itself. Only noticed a slight judder when turning the car on from cold and moving off, when the clutch gets to biting point its been a little jittery a couple of times but hasn't done that for a few days and not misfiring at the moment.

My advice to anyone is, if 1 coil goes if possible have all cylinders done as there seems to be a trend on this forum where if 1 goes they all go!

My girlfreind bought a nearly new (60 plate) Astra yesterday, 1.6 petrol in black and I drove it, didnt drive like a BMW but it was very very nice to drive and I thought, why am I spending this large amount of money and having all these problems..... BMW YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS, GET IT SORTED BEFORE CUSTOMERS THINK TWICE ABOUT THE BMW BRAND WHEN IT COMES TO THE NEXT CAR!!!!

What have I bought..?!?

Hi guys, bought a 2008 E92 2.0i just under a month ago. Fortunately the place I bought it from gave me a 30 day warranty and the car has been repaired by them under this warranty twice so far - yep you guessed it, coil packs!

Can't believe that BMW can get away with allowing a car to go to market that is obviously so unreliable with defective parts.

Really don't know what to do with it, already tried rejecting the car from the dealer but it looks like I'd have to go to court. Other option is to stick it in autotrader but not sure I'd be comfortable selling a lemon on to someone else! Could get a warranty but this is obviously additional expense! Could drive it into a tree I suppose!

I know this was mentioned a couple of posts back but does anyone know how to replace coil packs? Does anyone know where to buy them from?

Reject the car, and start the process now. Even if you start the process and decide to keep it...it's better than not starting and hating it.

My car drove me to despair, so I recommend careful consideration of your choices

Took your advice today Masterplan and went to see my solicitor. He said that I have a case to reject the car on the grounds of it being not fit for purpose, trick is that I would need to get an independent report stating that the car had a serious fault. All in they have estimated it will cost between £500

Bit of an update for everyone. My 320i Coupe is still working fine. Basically if you get misfiring, 4 new injectors, 4 new coils and 4 new plugs seems to do the trick. I then after driving for a few days took it back into BMW to see if anything had come up on the system as the misfiring problem can lead to faults on the exhaust system due to unburnt fuel and my system was clear

Mine is booked in for this friday. As soon as I mentioned the symptons, the service reception guy smiled and said 'Yeah, we get plenty of these through the workshop'.

I will ask them to replace all the injectors, coils and plugs to save me making a return trip.

Good luck with that, it's usually only the part they can demonstrate has failed....
Hopefully you have a sympathetic dealer!

Yep, mine was misfiring too. Had to replace all injectors, coils, spark plugs and a software upgrade to the ecu to get the engine go normal again, at the cost of 1000 euro. The new incetors have a new part number and maybe they are improved?

After 120.000km, I have replaced 4 injectors and 6 coils.

It also seems like the injectors are making load ticking sound when the temperature goes below aproxemately 5 degrees celcius. Is this normal?

it's very easy - on tuesday I followed this guide
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174217

to swap coil 1 with coil 4. This was to diagnose the fault and make sure it was the coil at fault.... luckily, it was, and I had a spare, so last night I re-opened her up, swapped 1 back with 4 and replaced the faulty one with a new one.

Took me 16 minutes, and I used an allen key, a 5/16" socket, a flathead screwdriver. That's all. It's a joke that dealers charge so much for this job, it's SO easy.

oh and I bought my coil from my local dealer. £10 dearer than bmminiparts but they had the new part number in stock, wheras other local dealers didn't, and bmminiparts needed to order it in from Germany.

latest part for e90 coils is 12137594935

Hi guys i haven't posted in ages i also own a 320i E93 Convertible on a 07 plate i have had several problems my very latest problem was when the roof failed to go back up after a hot day. The bill to fix that was £1500 at BMW Synter Chigwell. The hydraulic pump had failed, luckily warranty company picked up that bill. I have also had a ignition coil and fuel injector replaced but AA Repair Breakdown Cover picked up that £500 bill. Also Nitrogen Oxide Sensor failed another £500 bill picked up by warranty company. Luckily the only thing i have had to pay for was £35 rental car during my whole time owning this car, which let me just add has a full BMW Service History. My advice to everyone is think very hard before purchasing 3 series and think even harder about purchasing one without warranty or any of the latest 3 series convertible's that roof looks cool going up an down but when it goes wrong you best have a garage or BMW dealer next door as it cannot be operated manually. Once warranty is finished im getting rid.

Don't let it put you off totally, I have had well reported problems on here but tbh BMW have sorted them and I now have an almost perfect car which is a pleasure to drive.
My advice is look at it properly, if it has any kind of warranty get it back to a dealer and insist they do the work especially the engine, and wheels.

If you sort these problems the benefit of driving this car far far outweigh the negatives.

The only problem is i would be buying private which mean's no warranty. So it will cost me alot WHEN it start's to fall to piece's. The owner has told me the injector's have been replaced by BMW because he did have problem's with them.
