Exhaust Note
Has anyone noticed a difference between the exhaust note for the x-drive versus the i models?
I just received a loaner e93 and noticed that the exhaust note is significantly louder and more aggressive sounding than my e92 xi; I'm not sure if it has standard PE. I'm sure our secondary cats have to do a bit with it but it is a night and day difference! |

Since when do we have secondary cats and the I doesnt? It's the same exhaust I vs xi except for the area around the transfer case?

My 2008 335xi was much louder than my 2011 335 x-drive. I had to disconnect the actuator to get to the second exhaust to permanently stay open to get any decent sound. If i decide to buy out the lease I will be going with the PE exhaust.

An i might actually be louder than an xi cause piping is different. I'm fully catless and my friend's fully catless is a bit louder. Now It's either the exhaust or piping difference. We both have ar dp's and I have AMS exhaust while he has AE. The xi ar dp are differently shaped from an i and they're not fully 3" like the i. At one point where they curve they're 2.5". Now is this the case or the exhaust??

Thanks for the feedback; I guess it must be a subjective thing. I did speak with my service adviser after the fact and he stated that some of the loaners do come standard with PE. Based on the much throatier sound of it, I'm fairly certain it has the PE. My xi sounds muted in comparison.
New Century - I've had great service from there. They mentioned that once in awhile they have M3 loaners |

The '11 is an N55. The don't have secondary cats, and the exhaust note is completely different.
