So I ordered a HPF Feramic Clutch from Kurt at HPF. The dude was super knowledgable and customer service was top knotch. The price was definitely higher than other clutches but what made me buy the HPF Clutch was its ability to handle the horse power and torque while maintaining a factory like feel on the clutch pedal; according to what they advertise.

The clutch arrived promptly and this was how it was packaged.


It was well packaged in some very strong styrofoam. I decided not to order the additional hardware needed for install from HPF because my buddy Steve Lam from RPM Auto Center in Irwindale (where we did the install) had an account with BMW and it was cheaper through them. It was awesome that HPF let me know that I needed a special clutch alignment tool and aluminum transmission bell housing bolts.

Here is the clutch alignment tool from BMW. It does not look like a typical clutch alignment tool but this is the right one.


Before attempting to install, I watched the HPF video on the clutch install about 10 times. This video made the install very efficient. I followed the video exactly and everthing went fine. The two bolts on top of the bell housing; complete pain in the ass!

I removed the exaust and dropped the transmission.




Flywheel felt great; no glazing. The surface felt like the side of a phone book along the pages.


Cleaned all mating surfaces and replaced pilot bearing in transmission. Pilot bearing removal was a pain the ass!



Mounted the clutch disc and pressure plate...clutch alignment tool confirmed placement and transmission went back in with minimal effort.

Everything was assembled back together and extra time was taken to ensure all hardware was where it was supposed to be, tightened, and double checked.

Word of advice; thanks to the video, I organized all the nuts and bolts in zip lock bags and labeled them. There were a few brackets that I knew I wouldn't remember where they went so I took a picture of the bracket with my iphone and numbered the bag with the photo on my iphone. It took extra time to do so but I believe it saved me alot of work on the tailend of it.



Review of HPF Clutch

So far I have 200 miles on the clutch. I have been driving very conservatively to properly break in the clutch and so far it drives like a factory car. The clutch pedal definitely feels a little more stiff and engagement of the clutch seems alittle earlier than the factory clutch. So far the clutch is excellent and I have no complaints. Being a previous owner of honda with a four puck ACT, I appreciate the car not chattering off the line for regular driving. There is no chatter. I have no idea what this feramic stuff is but ITS AWESOME!!! I highly recommend this clutch to anyone who needs a clutch to hold some decent horse power. I was told by HPF it holds around 700 whp. Two more hundred miles and I can test it under WOT.

also how long did the install take you?

I did it myself on a lift and no way in hell I'm doing it again.

Yes. I would do it again. It took me a little over 6 hours (with my friend who is a mechanic...) but we were drinking coronas and eating wasabi almonds.

Seriously, the hardest part was getting the two top bolts on the tranny bell housing...everything else was okay...just watch the HPF video...

They have a stage 2 clutch that is rated for more and costs the same price.

Just be careful to not get the clutch super hot, ferramic clutches like to weld themselves to flywheels...

Shouldn't happen on the heavy OEM dual-mass steel flywheel.
