H&R+Bilstein or Eibach+Koni Impressions for xi
Vendors with experience encouraged to answer
OK, just bought a new set of the 18" Staggered MiRo 942's (BMW 313 Reps) & non-RFT tires to replace the factory 17's/RFT's on my 328ix E92 Time to also lower the car and get rid of the God awful 4x4 truck look. Not looking to go to extent of coilovers - just springs/shocks. From all my reading, it appears that most go with either: H&R Sport Springs/Bilstein Sports H&R Sport #50494-2Bilstein Sports Front Left: 35-142478 (F4-VE3-E247-H1) Eibach Pro Kit Springs/Koni Sports or Bilstein Eibach Pro ??????Koni Sport Front Left: 8741-1535LSport (apparently not available) #1 Eibach does not list an ix specific spring, yet I know several members have used them. For those that are running Eibach's on E92 ix - are you using the 328i Coupe #2091.140, 328i Sedan #2085.140 or 328i Vert #2099.140 (which I found some vendors list as correct for 328ix Coupe also)? #2 From member reviews, I gather the H&R springs offer bigger drop-but the ride is harsher, while Eibach's are less drop with comfortable ride. Is this the consensus? I never intend to track the car - just normal every day driving. Roads here in Western PA are definitely not the best, but the non-RFT tires should soak up some of the shock over the RFT's. Would you recommend H&R/Bilstein, Eibach/Bilstein for my application & why (if you have direct experience)...

No they don't, they only make rear shocks for the xi, they do not make fronts. You can run these in the back and stocks in the front but the Koni yellows won't fit up front.
Dinan offers this set up for 335's only. Must be a reason they don't offer for 328. |

Well, then either the Koni site is incorrrect, or they need to be more specific with their application details.
This is what they state: Quote:
I sent them an email requesting clarification

OK, well I never went that far because I would never buy directly thru them - you are correct, only the rears come up.
Which is even stranger because I have found other online vendors selling Koni sets listed specifically for the 328ix that include all (4) shocks and even list the part numbers for the fronts the same as numbers on Koni site. Wonder what they give you then if they aren't available-sounds like some fraud going on there... That's crazy, why go to all the trouble of making part numbers & listing them for an app if they don't actually have them? Are they something that is in process? At any rate, I'm not going to run lowering springs on factory shocks, so I guess that changes the scope of my question/poll slightly - edited thread. I'm still interested as to Koni's explanation Thanx

Nah, if they don't have them now they'll never have them. I'm running H&R Sports on stock shocks and, to be honest, the ride is pretty good. Obviously harsher than stock but well within tolerance. If you're considering shocks, I would recommend springing for them. Suspension installs are pricey and you don't want to have to do it twice.

The sticky at the top of the XI section has allthe info you can choke down on suspensions for the X drive cars. Turner is running a sale of 10% off for the month of March on Bilsteins...mine will be shipping soon and will be matched to a set of Eibachs. I probably would have used Koni but as has been discussed ad nauseum on these boards, there are no Konis for the front of the 335 X drive cars, nor will Koni ever build one, so it seems.

I am thinking about lowering, and if I do I am 90% sure to go the bilstein/H&R route.
It makes sense to me, the components are designed for the xdrive system, although it seems it wont get rid of the rake. But I'm going more for the tighter feel of the car than the look. Plus they are on sale: can you say win? Also, I'm still unsure because I want to keep my style 284 wheels (with ps2's) and am hoping it won't look cheesy... But I digress lol hope that helps |

OK, I get the deal with the Koni's. So since I won't run factory shocks with lowering springs, my only option is the bilsteins.
Still doesn't answer my question #1 as to what Eibach springs xi drivers are using? I realize the rears are the same between i & xi but fronts are different. So Ollie, did you just buy the i Pro Kit for your 335 since they don't list a xi kit? The sticky is very general regarding the Eibach springs - it states Pro Kit - OK, that's great-what P/N? They don't make one for xi - so I'm looking for what xi owners went with & their impressions/experience as to how they worked... Guess I'm leaning toward the Eibachs because the amount of lowering is not as great as the H&R's & seems peole state the ride is 'gentler' on crappy roads - but I hesitate to buy any part that is not made specifically for my application without hearing actual results.

This guy recently installed it with no problems: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=502349 Other people: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249243 I will also be installing Eibachs on tuesday. I'll post a review and some pictures of the drop after it settles And yes, they will be gentler than H&R sports because they have lower spring rates |

So if you can use the i springs for xi: 328i E92 --> #2091.140 Front 1.0/Rear 0.8 328i E90 --> #2085.140 Front 1.2/Rear1.0 335i E92 --> #2092.140 Front 1.0/Rear 0.8 335i E90 --> #2092.140 Front 1.4/Rear 1.0 Funny how 328 uses (2) different P/N's based on whether E92 or E90, while 335 uses same P/N And 335 P/N yields (2) different drops depending on whether used on E92 or E90 even thought it is supposedly the same spring. Must be vehicle weight? To be safe I guess 328ix E92 should go with 328i E92 springs - I wonder what would happen/what would be drop if 328i E90 springs were used on 328ix E92?

I PMed phrozenstone who had the Eibach/Bilstein setup before and he confirmed he used 328i E92 --> #2091.140 Front 1.0/Rear 0.8 for his 328xi E92. That is what I will be ordering. Thanks to him for clearing this up.
