SLIGHT rpm variation is very normal, especially with AC on.

Low on fumes would probably cause rough driving, stalling etc.

Right slight variation is correct but to me 300 rpm isn't slight. 50 or so is normal. I don't think people are watching the video.

The surge is more pronounced towards the last 1/3 of the video.

This is far for "slight". Basically the car almost stalls, then forces itself up to over 1000 RPM to remain running. I am running the latest DME version (or so I am told), when I got my PPK upgrade installed. But, the car did it before and after the PPK, so it has nothing to do with that.

My n55 does something similar when I restart the car an hour or two after it's been driven. The idle will bounce between 500 and 1200 about six or seven times before it settles down into a normal idle of around 550. Have never had any codes and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong.

Same problem here

I've had my car at two different dealers about 6 times for this problem and they can't seem to figure it out since it doesn't throw any codes and occurs randomly. Only thing I've noticed is it occurs when the car is pretty warm at idle with A/C on and less than 1/2 tank gas. When the idle fluctuates between 600 and 1k and almost stalls then bounces back over 1k. The minute I turn off the A/C idle is dead stable. Very embarrassing when you have people in your car and start to happen. I gave up on the problem and BMW probably has as well!

Hey all, has anybody had any luck figuring this out? I was driving from Orlando to Miami on Wednesday, and when I got stuck in traffic the idle surge was so bad the car almost moved with my foot on the breaks!

I can add, this has nothing to do with the A/C, it happens with it off. And this happened before and after I had the PPK installed.

I thought I read somewhere here that there will be a software update to fix this... but... who knows. At some point I will take it in.

I only have the PPK. And contrary to what I posted earlier, it does NOT happen when the A/C is off! The weather has been amazing in Miami the past week and my A/C has been off, and the car has been perfect. When I turn it on, I get the rough idle, so it has to do with the A/C.
