What is the best sounding intake for good value?

I know intakes don't do much for our cars in terms of power, but I would consider picking one up for the sound if its worth it. Any feed back and recommendations would be great

This thread has been played out so many times. Just do a charcoal filter delete and k&n drop in.

If you want to spend money, dinan.

Search for more.

poke a big hole in the stock intake box, something similar to dinan setup.

also do the silencer delete.

its free and will make it sound better,

the silicone intake tube does make some difference in sound. bang for the buck, it's not bad. I would have actually preferred the 4 ply version to the 6 ply but oh well.

power, I can't tell anything, so minimal at best, but there are dyno results in the original thread that show a small gain.

I did charcoal filter delete, K&N filter and replaced the stock elbow and silencer with an aftermarket one.

Sounds better, cost less than $100. If I ever feel like it I may modify the stock box to mimic either the Dinan or BMW Performance intake.

I like the aFe intake! Although I don't really know if it's the frugal option.

In my opinion, best intake option is to source a Eurobox from an eBay junkyard.

Google translate is your friend.

a little bit.

Granted your not going to get big sound from just swapping out air boxes.

drop your 2nd cats or res. from your exhaust.

the 2nd cats will give some gurggle and the res will give it some pop and pitch. Leave your OEM muffler. This is my exhaust plan.

or drop the muffler and call it a day for 150 or so.

I'm not a fan of exhaust mods for this car. I had the berk race muffler modified for my 128i and while higher rpm and downshifts/rev matching sounded great, it was too loud. I'm the type of person that likes to hear the grunt of an engine over exhaust. That's just me though.

Best value is free...after 6 years of ownership I drilled out some holes on the fender side of the box yesterday and did a new air filter and also cleaned the MAF. It sounds awesome and it definitely doesn't run worse

You could also try an exhaust that isn't a hunk of shit.
