There are 2 straights and one super long sweeping turn (turn 4) that is almost as fast as a straight. I was hitting the top of 3rd on both straights - right around 95/100 and almost 6k (close to 80 probably, although I couldnt look...car was loaded like crazy obviously) in turn 4.

Those who stayed for monday (Art!) got to do the main summit track - I heard 135+ on that straight, although it rained all day and never topped 40 degrees. That wouldve scared teh shit out of me to be honest lol.

Charles how have you found your v12s to perform in wet? I had understeer that was borderline unacceptable - Jeff's Toyos had probably 50% more grip in the wet and I cant figure out why. Another guy who was there with an E46 330ci was saying the same thing about the hankooks.

Dry handling was stupidly good though. So confused!

Here's something unrelated - a guy was there with a 458 Italia that he bought from Algar. Recaro seats and a harness bar. He tracked it all last summer. We were drooling over it all weekend (we parked right behind him) and he seems like a very capable driver (green group). My instructor was texting Jeff today and said that on Monday he looped off and backed the 458 into a wall. Took off the rear cover and broke some lights - they figured $50k in damage. Backing in a 458 is at the same time totally cringe-worthy and totally baller. Bling!
Yes, the same guy with the 458 was at NJMP event last year. He was in my run group, his daughter was running in the beginner group with Steve. If you look at his avatar, you'll see the red 458 in front of him
He's a really cool guy too. I ran a 430 for a few years. He let me sit in the 458 last year with the Recaro's. I did NOT want to get out.
Shame that he looped it. At least he's out there enjoying the car!

On the summit circuit:
The 458 looped. An instructor in an e36 m3 ran of the track in the first lap of green in the first session Monday on turn 8 or 9.

I was hitting 115/116 mph on the main straight. That was fast enough for me. My instructor took me out in his z4m and was doing 140/145 mph on the main straight.

I can't wait to see your car either! Last time I saw it the intake was just being put back on and I saw the brakes.

Reduce your corner entry speed and trail brake into the corner to rotate the car better. A neutral setup is great but could go into either understeer/oversteer very easily and if you don't do it right, you'll be going oversteer more often than not. Learn technique first, go fast later. You'll thank yourself later when you do start oversteering and you know how to correct yourself as oppose to going backwards into a wall.

I'm on RS3's. They seem to be the cheap track tire of choice this season.

^^ you guys realize we were driving with instructors in the car, right?

all of the technique advice is great, but when im following jeff into a wet, off-camber corner at the same speed and with teh same turn-in and i get an excess of oversteer and he doesnt, clearly the v12s aren't doing as well as the toyos for one reason or another.

again, the v12s were fantastic in the dry and gave me no surprises - the wet handling seemed disappointing relative to other brands in similar setups (i.e., jeff's 235 front, 265 rear toyos on the same car) - i just wondered if anyone else had a similar opinion regarding their wet handling.

Regarding the V12s - no experience with wet, all my track days have been fair weather. On the street I haven't noticed any irregularities in the rain.

Understeer is almost always driver error, the solution is simply slow down - reduce your corner entry speed (especially when it's wet). All factory road cars are built to understeer at the limit - ALL of them.

I'm at the point where the V12s are becoming a limiting factor on the track, I am yearning for more grip. They're a bit soft for what we are demanding out of them. My overall experience has been overwhelmingly positive howeve; great ride, they're inexpensive, and they communicate their grip on the track extremely well. I always know when they're approaching their limits.

Next set of tires for me is likely Michelin PSS. The 335 is just a heavy car, it asks a lot out of its tires (can't even imagine something like an Audi S4 - 4,000+ lb unloaded).
It's funny that you mentioned the Audi S4. My buddy Phil that I went to Lime Rock with has a 2011 S4. He has 3x the track experience as I do.
His S4 was so slow in the inter/advanced group that he got tired of watching his rear view mirrors and pointing people by that he asked to be moved down to the beginner group so he could at least enjoy himself (less cars on the track)!
I flew by him and quickly left him in the dust. MAJOR difference in speed. He had a lightly modified e46 330 before the S4. I'm pretty sure the S4 is slower than his old car.
Yes Charles, you were right, S4's are slow on the track.

I won't be attending the meet tonight if people decide to go. Have some work to get caught up on and doesn't seem to be a turnout tonight. Maybe next week we can get something going. I will be in for any night in the future as long as the Flyers aren't playing.

Yeah there wasn't much interest for this week. I'll be out of the next four-five weeks. Looks like I'll be on the west coast for a bit for work.

Wow that's really something he was that slow. At one point last year on NJMP thunderbolt there was an S4 behind me and an S4 in front. The nose dive is pretty severe on those cars, the one in front of me was literally plowing its way into turns and barely recovering. Granted the driver was going a bit fast but still, it looked really sloppy.

A front BBK is a rather popular FIRST mod for those cars!

They sure do have nice interiors though.

Thanks for asking about the leg. It is doing well. I was able to put weight on it just over three weeks ago (which i hadnt been able to do since January 17th).

I started driving again this past Saturday. Which is a huge relief. Especially when I wasnt able to enjoy my car for so long. I put some minor mods on during my time spent not driving (arkym quad diffuser, cyba black chrome quads, BMS intake, m3 lip and some debadging to clean up the rear). So it's nice to look at and sounds different with the intake.

Just going to therapy a lot trying to get movement and flexibility back in my ankle and strength back in my leg.

Hope to see you guys real soon. Hopefully some decent turnouts at KOP meets in the next few weeks. Sorry you can't make it CJ!
