6NR and iPhone 4 craddle snap-in adapter thread

First the facts:

Part Number:
Snap-In adapter for iPhone4 (6NR music + video): P/N 84.21-2 218 390-02

Get it from Tischer:

I was about to order the adapter for my car which has 6NR, but I don't know what I would really gain over the normal USB cable?
I tried out my iPhone connected via USB cable and I could do BMW Apps and Pandora without issues. The album art shows up on the iDrive for USB media and Pandora, I don't really use the iPhone for music.

From what I understand, the only thing you gain with the actual adapter (I could be wrong on this though), is the "plug-in" functionality. Which allows iDrive to have the look and feel of your iPhone screen and operates in a similar manner. See this:

Oh, and I'm not sure if you can play videos on your iPhone (and have them appear on iDrive) without the adapter.

But if you only care about Pandora and BMW apps, no need for adapter.

I have the adapter, and yes...you get the plug-in function.

You get full iPod functions + video playback.

You cannot get video over USB, only over the adapter.

Works well, and hold the phone in place nicely and allows easy pop-in / out.

Doesn't the adapter connect the phone to the car's antenna and improve the signal strength of the phone?

It's actually $210 for the 6NR capable adapter.

So happy my dealer messed up my car delivery..... they gave me my media adapter for free to make up for it
