Downpipe with no auto delete for codes??
Bone stock N55 xDrive. I want a little better sound when I open her up, but not when I'm driving in a boring manner. I'm thinking I'll start with DPs to keep costs down at first. If that doesn't give me enough, then I can add the BMW Performance Exhaust.
If I just add DPs and do not add a tune or CANtool, I'll just have to look at the check engine light right? If an actual problem arises, I suspect I'd get a new triangle or alert? I really don't like the idea of having the CANtool plugged in my OBDII port. I figure I'll quickly break it it off or damage the port by kicking the tool. And will leaving the secondary cats in while adding a catless DP on the xDrive eliminate most of the odor? I won't mind a little bit at start up in the open garage, but I don't want to smell my car at a stop light.

Get a tune because that will clear the code that the dp throws, get the dp to make the exhaust sound differently like you asked, get a charge pipe so your stock one doesn't crack.
Haha. Or wait until they come up with a fix for the dp code. Then you can get the dp with that fix and not have to see the light and get the sound you want. Also I believe install costs are more for the dp on an x drive, heard they need to drop the sub frame. So take that into consideration. The secondary cats will help with the smell of running catless on the dp. I notice some smell from running catless, but I like to say that's the smell of performance! Haha |

I expect to track the car and the added heat generated with the tune will not be good on long days. I did I add the M Sport Package, I screwed up and didn't get the one with the secondary oil cooler (required the 18" wheels).
A tune may come, but not until I know it will not be more of a pain than it's worth and that I'm already using the stock hp and tq to it's full potential. I ordered the Koni/swift suspension from HPA, so I can use the existing power in and out of corners better. I don't mind putting more money into the car, but I do want to get the most that I can for it. Hence, DPs and then the more expensive exhaust if I'm still not happy.

I suggest getting a CAN Tool with the catless DP so you can auto-clear the check engine light. That light is annoying and more importantly, if you have to take the car into the dealer, you don't want them to see it.
