FMIC testing
Has anyone done extensive testing on FMIC's? Specifically I'm wondering what improvements people are seeing in terms of loss in PSI pre/post IC compared to the stock IC, as well as temperature improvements pre/post IC compared to stock.
Specifically I'm looking for serious data spreads like what is found here from ETS: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...7&postcount=37 But I'd like to see other manufacturers too. Last edited by Bmwguy11; 09-27-2011 at 02:58 PM.. |

Most of what they have is IAT temperatures and info from manufacturers on efficiency. I'm looking to see if anyone has actually done testing back to back under same conditions of stock vs aftermarket, pre/post inlet/outlet temps and pre/post inlet/outlet PSI. I see only a couple of those data points mentioned in the thread, but even those aren't actual data. For example, helix mentions pre/post temp, though outlet temp was "estimated". In fact, someone even asks the question "what about presssure drops pre/post FMIC" and indicates that the thread lacks that data.
But I'll keep reading. Edit: I found some data on 2 of the many manufacturers. ETS had the only comprehensive data I was looking for so far, but I'd love to see that kind of data spread from the other manufacturers. Beyond that, my searches instead turn up threads like this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426862 Where it looks like someone is actually trying to collect the data I mention, but it never comes into fruition. :/ Last edited by Bmwguy11; 09-27-2011 at 02:56 PM.. |

As I said before, it's a place to start -- not a bible guide to every intercooler out there to date. That will actually take some time to search. Before I bought my FMIC, I spent days searching through e90post... but all the information was there, that's how I know it's searchable. Edit: Guess you beat me to it

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...7&postcount=37 While a single data point is ok, it's not a comprehensive view since the numbers won't be static throughout the entire rpm range, flow range, etc. For example, an FMIC won't necessarily have a .5 PSI loss at all times. ETS is the only one I can find so far that has it, hence why I posted the thread. I know how to search, but sometimes even then the exact info can be difficult to find if I'm not searching the right terms. :/ |
