Whats the deal with the mount? too much flex?

There must be looking on my crossmemeber looks like the belt rubs and wears it out over time. Must do it when I have the engine under a good load. Supposibly the 335is mount helps checked the part numbers and they are different but the other side is the same number as the old 335i.

I have the IS mount. Works fine I guess. Although, I didn't have this issue with the old factory mount. I'm sure the mount is unrelated.

How different is the "is" mount from the "i" mount is it taller or what?

I sent an email to Mike Miller (roundel tech editor) regarding this issue asking him if the 335is mount will help to avoid the pulley hitting the subframe. I'm awaiting his reply and will update this thread with his response...

Unfortunately Mike didn't have any info on this so still not sure if the 335is mount would make any difference....

so has anyone installed the 335 IS mounts on their 335i yet?

if it helps I would be interested in doing it preventatively along with replacing the Serpentine Belt.

Thanks!

Did it.
No real difference noted but I had the engine out anyway so why not.

The cross member is too close to the power steering pulley. It makes contact , throws that pylley out of alignment and starts the belts on its way to distruction. BMW will tell you that you hit a speed bump to fast or my personal favorite "engaged is sprited cornering." (you cant do that in the ultimate driving machine) I had to have severa conversations with the SA becuse the y called in some regional SA to tell them this is what caused it, but you are not allowed to talke to this guy that comes to look at your car. Then they proceed to inform me that BMW is revising the crossmember. Up until this point They where trying to stick me with the bill. I pointed out that BMW would not be redesigning parts if it where my fault. They replaced it with the new notched crossmember.

Just got my car back 4 days ago, after 4 months of not being able to drive it. Everything was running fine until yesterday.

It broke again, last night as I was going on a drive. My car fucked up again. Lol. Just my luck. So for the past 3 days, the car has been running great. About 1 hour ago I chose to drive to Walmart, and on the drive it as fine. The car was fine and everything was good. Then once we finished doing what we have to do out Walmart, I turn the car on and I got a very high pitch sound so I turned it off right away. And then I opened the hood, and I noticed that none of the pulleys were spinning and there is a small chunk missing in the belt, but it wasn't ripped or torn our shredded and when I touch the belt, I was able to pull it off the pulleys with no force.

Last time, the belt shredded itself so that was entirely bad. Plus the a/c compressor was broken and the power steering pulley was cracked. The power steering pulley is new and the a/c compressor is also brand new. Instead of shredding itself to bits, the belt looks like it just popped off the pulleys. Personally, I think its a belt tensioner issue.

I now keep an extra belt on hand and check the existing belt every 500 miles. Mine has only shredded once and I was Lucky enough not to have it destroy the main pulley gasket. If anyone gets a class action lawsuit going please let me know. By far the biggest bullshit thing BMW has ever pulled given they re-designed the sub frame and engine mount. All we need enough people to come forward, power in numbers.

Me too, and I don't think there is a consensus yet on whether or not the 335is mount will mitigate this issue either....

My power steering pump bolts were becoming undone, as one was completely missing with the others backed off. This caused the pump to have movement and completely shredded my belt. Shit sucked, and it sounded horrible since it was a loud POP! Lost all power steering, battery sign lit up on my dash, etc.

I have a 2008 335i (02/2008 build) and over the last 6 months my car has been louder while idling (squealing noises). I have about 52k miles which in my opinion is not a lot.

I think it is from the belts. I looked at them they seemed tight with "good" groves. After reading this thread I am getting the feeling that I am on the "brink" of possible disaster. I am out of warranty and no CPO.

Please advise? Should do I change the belt? idler/pully? What to do inspect without any repairs?
